1809 Thomas Jefferson in the debate over the Re-charter of the Bank Bill (America);
“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks…will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered…. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”
I wonder how that is not quoted in every american history book.
Issuing power to the people.
Tom's statement here is based on the premise that we have a democratic government. He starts out with "If the American people ever allow...". Well, the American people don't have the power to allow of disallow anything anymore. I'm looking at definitions of various forms of government and "kleptocracy" seems to come the closest to describing what we've descended to...
If that means taken over and bought out then I agree
Agreed. For a recent history of the crisis and why many of us are here, please read:

Amen. A great man indeed. His nightmare came to be. "Isn't it ironic, don't you think?... A good advice you just didn't take"
