Forum Post: This movement is being hijacked like the Tea Party was

The Tea Party started off as a big tent movement that was decentralizedThat and leaderless. It had alot of problems in the beginning with finding unity and message. That was the openning that allowed the demagogues to come in and hijack it to an ultraconservative movement.

If you want to avoid the same thing happening to you a representative, a leader,, a media "go to" person needs to be found and put at the head. Someone who can keep the movement on message, accept endoresments that are inline with the groups purpose, and distance it from endorsements that are not.

The Tea Parties original purpose was very different from it's purpose today. The parallels between these two movements in their early stages are striking. I would say it's critical for anyone who is serious about the Occupy movement to study what happened with the evolution of the Tea Party so we can learn from their success and failures.

This movement IS getting hijacked. The tea party hasn't been hijacked...we hijacked the Congress in 2010 and focused.our efforts on making change happen. You would not have heard of Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Scott Brown, or Hermann Cain without the tea party...OWS has a vacuum at the top. It will be filled.

Yes it will be filled. My point is whether it will be filled by those who actually represent the original spirit of the movement, or analogues to Palin, Beck., and Bachmann.
