I am confused about this movement I keep hearing different versions of the goals and do not see any leadership even this site has a page asking people to submit suggestions about what the goals should be...And it states that posts will be decided by "People who are making these decisions" Who are these people? Two years ago I started a non-profit called nationalday911.org I started it because i see people losing their homes and jobs so I started researching what happened that got us in this situation.(I have to tell you I have had financial problems myself and I am not running for office) I know about the financial misdealing on Wall Street and in the housing Industry and with globalization there were jobs sent overseas but you know what seemed to be the deciding factor in our economic downturn IT WAS SEPTEMBER 11th 2001, just a few blocks from where the main demonstration is now. First I keep hearing that there is only so much money and it isn't trickling down to us (yep I would be included as a 99%er) but if you look at the bailouts the first one was the airline industry (because of 9/11) then of course came the wars(9/11 again) (to date about 4 Trillion dollars)and building a new Homeland Security Agency(9/11again) ( to date about 3 trillion dollars) now at this point the Government is way in Debt they don't raise any taxes to pay for the wars or new agency and then Partly because of the climate of wars and terrorism the other bailouts begin T.A.R.P for the banks who made bad loans and didn't anticipate the economy slowing down to the extent it did because of yep you guessed it 9/11 A.I.G. maybe because they paid out Billions because of yep you guessed it 9/11(they have always given huge bonuses but those were nothing compared to what 9/11 cost them. Now we have a government who is scared to raise taxes to pay the bills ( not a good re-election platform if you know what I mean) Does not have the man-power or gonads to prosecute wealthy swindlers. But I do not believe we should be prosecuting any one who has become successful legally. I do not believe Americans are demonstrating against some symbol of the 1%ers and the 99%ers if these 1%ers have committed crimes then prove it, present it to the authorities ,do not generalize accusations against people because they are successful. I do not want to Spam this site but when I heard what is going on there I had to write this and ask people to visit nationalday911.org and see a different way to do this. It is a nationalistic web site but I have complaints myself about corruption and power I believe working within the system is the best way to accomplish FREEDOM but in today's dangerous world we need to unite to help everyone.
push congress to end bush tax cuts , rebuild America bridges and roads , invest in middle class not banking class thats the occupy wall street message
Only in America I suppose gawdoftruth..lol
Notice how the only ones who complain are the ones at the bottom. These people that are protesting are exercising they're rights. However, it is pointless. They're not gonna change anything. This isn't Zeitgeist. YOu know how comfortable it is to sample a collection of expensive cheeses with a chilly glass of expensive wine in an office with a view? No one is going to give that up for no 99% of the people "suffering."
It is the world that we live in and whether they like it or not, nothing is going to happen. Boycotting goods is the only way for Wall St. to feel a dent in their system. But people won't even do that. WHY? Because it's very comfortable to go to Walmart and buy everything you need for a good price.
you just notice a moment in history when the entropy suddenly increased. if you track back far enough you can show that things were all wrong pretty much by 1777.
Well it's too late to go back to 1776. That's why I'm a Progressive. You try to go back there now and you'll just end up in the Killing Fields, trying to force some kind of agrarian Utopia. People happen, things happen and things change. We have to stop this nostalgia about the American Revolution. It is like 99% irrelevant in our time, and it's our personalized road to fascism writ large.
That's one of the most idiotic posts I've read here. The principals of liberty are timeless.
Well it's clear that your version of Liberty is better than mine because you also (apparently) believe that well over 99% of our American timeline has been a waste. If everything was wrong here since the beginning, what differentiates us from any other Tom Dick and Harry Republic? What makes what I said idiotic? Please elaborate.
You posted nonsense about 1776 (Declaration of Independence) leading to "killing fields" and "fascism". It's the not adhering to the constitution that's destroyed the country. How you come up with my saying that the principals of liberty are timeless to mean "everything was wrong here since the beginning" is beyond me.
I understand that you and Gawdoftruth are 2 different people, but the "apparently" in parentheses that I wrote denotes that you ostensibly agreed with gawdoftruth in the fucking post above. If you can't see how wanting to roll back the American Dream to 1776 status is an idiotic fantasy, well then at least it's your fantasy and not mine. If you have no idea what the Killing Fields are or what fascism really looks like, don't get involved in the conversation. What you wrote is just vague tri-corner drivel. It's literally meaningless to believe in liberty without structure, because your liberty ends where the next person's liberty begins. Try to refute that.
And this: "How you come up with my saying that the principals of liberty are timeless to mean "everything was wrong here since the beginning" is beyond me."
To gawdoftruth, this appears to be the case. You just got confused and thought I was arbitrarily lumping you in when I was just offering you the rope. You are the one that hung yourself with it.
