The current focus on the budget deficit is misguided. If you want to bring economic opportunity back the US we need to end the trade deficit. Since our legislature is completely broken they will do nothing to move us in that direction. Each month tens of billions of dollars are pulled out of circulation in the US and are shipped to the likes of communist China and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The effects of eliminating our trade deficit would be astronomical taking into consideration the multiplier effect on the economy.
What you can do is stop buying foreign goods, even down to things like Avacados. There's enough surplus Chinese junk cluttering homes in the US to keep us supplied for the next 100 years. If you need something look for an American made product, or buy it used. Cut down on driving, car pool.
What will you HAVE after you throw out everything you own that is not american made?
Not much - heck, you may not even have drywall in your home/apt.
Simple as pie.
