The World Bank estimates an additional 64 million people will be living in extreme poverty as a result of the global recession
The capitalist/monetary system may be the catalyst for the broad inequality within the western world but let's try to remember that it's the third world and developing countries which are hit the hardest. Let's focus more on the global inequality and the poor people who are such victims of this primitive, selfish and destructive system we so desperately need to change. These human beings are struggling to satisfy the mere basic of human needs.
When an additional 64 million are victims of poverty due to the inevitable and foreseen collapse of the financial system, something needs to change. I have to say, living in the global 1% I can't help but feel partially responsible and feel onus to change my behaviour.
"The World Bank has estimated that an additional 64 million people will be living in extreme poverty on less than US$1.25 a day by the end of 2010 as a result of the global recession." - http://www.ausaid.gov.au/makediff/gec.cfm
