According to the law of nature it is only fair that no one should become richer through damages and injuries suffered by another. All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression. Countrymen and women today I tell you we have nothing to fear from the tyranny of the majority for the majority has been ill represented in this nation for years. The tyranny of the minority is the sad truth that every American knows in their heart. The social mobility that was once the pride of our nation is past. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

In a brighter era of our history we believed that conquest was not in our principles. Because it is inconsistent with our government. Instead today we invade countries for their resources. Iraqi oil, minerals in Afghanistan, Libyan oil. We care for the plight of people in nations who are rich in energy and minerals. But atrocities in other nations without these assets we ignore.

Americans have grown complacent in these many years of prosperity. Their focus is diverted by a corrupt media to celebrity scandals and reality TV. But no more. We must educate the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day. If people knew the truth we could send this corrupt establishment home and elect persons with integrity and genuine concern for every American citizen. True statesmen have been in short supply in our nation for decades.

I tell you now that every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories. We must take back our government. The establishment would have us believe that by exercising our god given rights to speak, to petition and to assemble that we are being un-patriotic. They say if we protest outside of the free speech zones that we are breaking the law but we must echo the words of great leaders and thinkers past and respond by saying that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.

We go to war to spread democracy when our own democracy is threatened from within. The Supreme Court which is supposed to safeguard our liberties, today protects the government and the rights of moneyed interests, they have turned back the clock on states rights, free speech, and civil liberties. We once believed that a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained in arms, is the best most natural defense of a free country. However today such groups are labeled as terror suspects. Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government. We did not take to heart the warnings from our past so today we are reaping the harvest of our complacency.(1)

  1. I do not submit these words as my own but as a bringing together of the ideas and words of great statesmen, leaders, and patriots throughout our history. Though long gone they still speak to us today if we will only listen.

People like to dismiss them. They left us a great framing for a nation. What we have become is a great perversion of that vision. The answers are there if people would look at the documents and understand what they say. Not what some else tells them they mean.

So true!! Most would rather watch American Idol than learn about American Government.

I like, and agree with your points. Good post and well written. But it is a bit hard to read. Maybe next time break it up a bit in paragraphs.
