Ok, here is a question for everyone. Next year, on this date, 11/11/12. Will there be more, or fewer, people at the various OWS encampments around the US?

The repelicans will be in an abject state of agitation as the tide of this movement drowns out the din of their lies. Their drumbeat of fear will fall flat upon all but themselves, where it will convulse behind their rib cage in spasms of agony.

ZenDog, you should be a writer. That's pretty good.

[-] 2 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

well ok then.

What do you think I should do?

Write poems? Short stories? Essays?

But if I did, what would I do with them? I mean, I've heard it is so difficult to break into the literary world without the ability to shmooze - and I couldn't shmooze to save my soul!

What do you think? Put up a web site maybe?

well, first I'd have to write some stuff . . .

Yeah. It's hard but not impossible. If you are serious, I suggest getting a copy of a book called 'Writer's Market.' It's updated yearly and is essentially THE guide for writers looking to sell their material. Also check the website 'Smashwords' as another option. I haven't been there yet but I hear they print e-books and such for free then take a cut of the profits if and when it sells.

ZenDog, I suggest you try non-fiction for the first time.

I have read so many places that OWS is apolitical. So, you disagree with that?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

I do disagree with that statement, yes. I believe it is very very difficult to be apolitical while seeking political change.

That said, you would be correct to say that OWS is not affiliated with . . . say . . . the democratic party - because they are not.

Neither am I.

Who said that OWS is seeking political change? From what I can tell that isn't the consensus at all.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

Any attempt to address economic injustice is by its very nature a political act.

Perhaps you need to reexamine why you are here?

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

There are quite a lot of people involved in the movement who insist to the contrary, the it is NOT a political movement, because the goal of the movement is not necessarily to create a change in government.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

A) I'm not at all sure you will find consensus on that - certainly not in Burlington, and B) it doesn't really matter what you think it is or is not - it's having an effect.

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

There is no consensus on anything except for the idea that there should be no consensus. And there are overwhelming numbers of people who do not believe in participating in the current political system with the objective of making government more responsive to the concerns of the protesters.

Here, proof. Read the responses to my proposal:

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

Nonsense. We reached consensus several times at tonight's GA. If the responses to your proposal indicated that there should be no consensus, I would consider that perhaps some of those responding are repelican trolls parading around in Guy Fawkes masks.

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

I really hope that you're wrong, because if the goal of the Occupy movement actually is to effect political change then the movement is failing. If that's the goal then why can't the movement pick specific issues, or specific positions on those issues? Where is the Occupy version of the Contract From America? It doesn't exist, and it never will, because a lot of people don't think that there should be a political platform in the first place, and the people who do will never agree on the specifics. Is Occupy for the Fed or against the Fed? Is Occupy for more government regulation or less? Is Occupy for globalization and free trade or against? Is Occupy in favor of tight borders or uncontrolled immigration? You'll find people on both sides of all of those issues, and more.

I can't comment on your latest - but here, try this, it is broad enough to cover any number of individual issues from the Tar Sands Oil Project to . . .

. . . behavioral advertising . . .

.

. OH how I abhor

the hordes of lying whores

who prowl the people's halls of power

bearing gifts in the name of profit.

Well I dunno. In Burlington we marched last Sunday in opposition to the Tar Sands Oil Project, and on the 17th we are marching in support of Postal Workers.

And I don't think we are failing at all. I think we are already having an affect - and I believe we are going to do a whole lot more.

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

Well let me know once you figure out what you stand for, maybe I'll be able to support it. I can't support just protesting full-time for the sake of protesting.

The crazies really do make it hard to hold a conversation.

ZenDog, you would be better off writing a fiction story like Alice in Wonderland rather than trying to make intelligent arguments. Your post was evidence of your extreme paranoid. I would go see a doctor about that.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

I've done that. Every time I tell them my tale they begin to turn pale, sweat profusely, and seek to usher me out the door as expeditiously as possible, complete with referral to someone else.

LOL!

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 13 years ago

And so here is Alice in Wonderland - only his name is Mark, not Alice . . .

That answer to that question will depend on whether or not the Politicians wake up any time soon.

Alot of people don't realize that the people Occupying don't have anywhere else to go.

[-] 0 points by KnowledgeableFellow (471) 13 years ago

That's crazy. You speak as if the "occupier" are down and out homeless people that "don't have anywhere else to go". I bet the average person there comes from a family that is higher on average economically than the average American. No where else to go? Geez, the homeless have been kicked out of OWS encampments. They are the ones with less places to go than you.

You have no idea what it means to not have anywhere else to go. Whiners.

[-] 1 points by RicoSuave (218) 13 years ago

There will be no OWS in one year's time.

The election of 2012 will have passed, and they will no longer be useful.

[-] 0 points by KnowledgeableFellow (471) 13 years ago

No one has answered my question. Other things are being discussed, but like so much with the OWS, everyone goes off topic.

So, will OWS be larger or smaller in their encampments a year from now?
