Did you know that Franklin Roosevelt drafted a Second Bill of Rights for the American people in his last State of the Union Address? Here are its eight points. As FDR proposed.

Every American is entitled to:

 The right to useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
 The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
 The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
 The right of every family to a decent home;
 The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
 The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment;
 The right to a good education.

What if the Second Bill of Rights was used now as a set of guiding principles towards advancing the economic opportunity, health and well-being and education of all citizens? What if it was the framework and lens through which we conducted our political debate - instead of the zero-sum thinking dominates our political dialogue? As the effects of the Great Recession continue to harm, the Second Bill of Rights is relevant and relevant now - and is the legacy and vision from a man who guided the nation through the Great Depression. Explore it, talk about it, bring it to life. (http://www.secondbillrights.org).

The Jobs Bill was an opportunity to see the first principle of the Second Bill of Rights put into action - Congress repudiated it yesterday.
