Your ARTVOICE Article asks "who controls our country"? The answer is obvious -- our Government (the alternative is anarchy). Who directs our Government? The answer is obvious -- our Politicians -- that is the goal of a Political Party. Who directs our Politicians? No one because the American voter is either Pathetic (unable to distinquish between our Political System and our Government), Ignorant (unaware that our Political system is criminally dysfunctional), or Apathetic (accepts our Criminally Dysfunctional Political System by voting for the lesser of two evils).
Solution -- the American voter needs to provide Political Oversight a.k.a. Government by the People, not Government by the Politicians.
Unfortunately, even if the Voter is not Pathetic, the Ignorance and Apathy are comparable to thick tar.

I agree with you that our criminally dysfunctional political system is one of many problems we're facing, but I don't feel it's right to blame the victim--the people. When everyday Americans struggle to feed their families after having been so thoroughly disenfranchised by the rich and powerful, they have more important things to worry about than the games politicians play.
When you say we need a government by the people rather than politicians, are you talking about local or federal government? On the local level where people still have a voice, such change is certainly possible but on the federal level I find it highly unlikely without revolution. That's just my own opinion and I suspect you're advocating the same thing with different rhetoric. Also the "anarchism alternative" is more popular than you'd think.
You all seem very selfish and do not care but themselves. Your arguments are pure nonsense
The politicians are directed. By corporations. We need electoral reform, both in campaign finance and in getting rid of First Past the Post in favor of Instant Run-off. And yes, we need to take back local power. If enough of us demand it, we cannot be stopped. No violent revolution, but possibly a civil one is in order. Mass protest, marches from city to city and through the towns, and general strikes.
Actually our politicians are directed. and the word is apathetic, not pathetic.
