I think one thing that many people can agree on is the problem of campaign finance reform and lobbies. I've been harping on it for a long damn time now.
As long as lobbies are going to be present in our political process, they are going to have a heavy influence on our government. The biggest and most powerful lobbies are well funded and corporately and/or industrially backed.
The second problem is that he who spends the most money on their campaign has the best chance at winning the presidency. THAT IS BULL**! You can't sit there and tell me that that was what was intended when our founding fathers setup this country. We need shorter campaigns, and publicly funded candidates.
The influence of money has got to be divorced from our governing process or else this country is on the path to destruction. Plain and simple. I believe these people are misguided, but I also believe that they have a general idea of what is causing the problems. These people need to galvanize under a common issue that has its roots in all of these problems.
In all honesty, nether party is immune to the campaign finance and lobby issue.
There is a wealth of information on what I'm referring to on: http://www.opensecrets.org/index.php
You can pull up campaign contributions for democrats as well as republicans. In both cases, it is largely the same story. Spend the most money, get the position.
It is creating a ruling class that has the best interests of the wealthy in mind rather than the overall good of the people. The founding fathers built this country with the intent to distance themselves from the aristocracy of Europe. We are re-instituting it in a modern form.
