There was a time when most American corporations were led by creative and ambitious people. Not always likable but creative. Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, etc.
Today's CEO is primarily a bean counter. Particularly since the incentive system was installed, all the CEO is really interested in is short term profits to reward himself with huge bonuses.
Solution: CEO paid a flat salary ($250,000) with bonus paid only after 10 years of successful leadership and growth.
Why do you even care? Is the OWS movement all about jealousy? If the stockholders of a company don't like the CEO, or think that he is worth the money, they will get rid of the loser. Nothing is more fair than that.
And you will get noone. $250k is not enough money for that work. That's why they can command so much more.
If a CEO can make a company running better, it's not a problem he gets good payed for it. The only problem is he get paid in the same year and leaves the company. But the company has still the RISKS he has taken to grow the company. If you are the 1% (and beeing called by your friend to be a CEO), you get payed at once al large ammount like that. But it has to be distributed over several years, and every year the company does well, you do well. The company doesn't do well or goes bankrupt. You don't get the monney and it wil be used to pay back the creditors or put back in to the company. So: CEO's en CFO's have to be paided in the FUTURE when we know how the company does. And not paying them NOW for risk that bites you in the FUTURE....
And maybe a MINIMUM of working years at the company for being on the "board". And if you work less than 2 year there, you can't get a bonus or a golden watch when you leave....(I also don't get one when im fired!)
I am supportive of the movement at large. These forums are instructive but quite unorganized. Could all participants start to cluster under a given platform with an agreed agenda and start from there?
