Forum Post: The Polls Say Tax the Wealthy, So Why...

Why is every Republican candidate proposing a tax giveaway to the wealthiest Americans? At the same time they're pushing for cuts to Social Security and Medicare. This is scary. What do they know that we don't? Do they really expect their media propaganda to win the day? Or is it something even more insidious than that?

instaed of keeping with the rich vs. poor rhetoric, why not just focus on removing the influence of private money (corporate, union, special interest) from politics? you will get more support from across the board. As long as it is structured as a rich vs. poor or tax the rich debate, you will never get anywhere (because you will always find poor who disagree with increasing taxes soley on the point that it encourages a big government)

Who do you think the 1% are? Maybe the 1% best-looking Americans? No. It isn't rhetoric when you have a wealth disparity we haven't seen in this country since the 20's. OWS is not about defending the huge wealth/power grab by the 1% but exposing it. I'm looking for support. Seventy percent of Americans already agree that too much wealth is in the wrong hands.

Remember that the candidate is a representative (or wannabe) for his/her constituency, who may or may not be corporeal citizens, as distinct from corporate citizens. What the candidate says reveals what his/her backer$ want. To answer your question(s), follow the money...
