Wow, just... wow. Something's definitely wrong with our system. No one even asked the NYPD to step up. According to this poll (http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1302.xml?ReleaseID=1662), 87% of New Yorkers have no problem with the Occupy Protesters. Most agree with the movement.
They want to make sure nobody becomes violent. Keep going, keep being nonviolent.
That's not true at all! If they were there to keep things from becoming violent then they wouldn't be spending all their time attacking peaceful protesters!
They're not there to make sure things stay peaceful. They're there to provoke a riot and, as such, they need to maintain a large presence in case they succeed!
hmm... if we're paying them anyways, we might as well make them work for it. let's give them some harder work.
Did you actually read the poll? 87% said "it is ok they are protesting." It doesn't say anything about blocking the Brooklyn bridge and causing scenes at banks. Do a poll where you ask that question.
Cops are part of the 99% anyways. Most of NYC's tax money is from the 1%. You should applaud this.
Don't worry, Chase Bank will donate more money to them.
Since cops are part of the 99%, #OWS is doing a great job helping with redistributing the wealth.
I don't mind the good policemen of NY getting overtime pay! Good for them. The good ones deserve it! And for anyone concerned about where their tax dollars are being spent, isn't this a relatively small price to pay for getting our democracy back. I think it is money well spent and is worth it.
We need the good policemen there to control any bad apples in the crowd. The bad apples are not good for the movement. I only hope the police can make the right distinction. And get it right most of the time. I know there have been some problems, but I think we need to have faith in most police are trying to do the right thing, often in difficult situations. We need to support their efforts the best we can. This helps us all.
http://www.wearethe99percentshirt.com/ - Shirt seen all over OWS, Occupy DC, Occupy Miami, and Occupy Seattle. 15% of all proceeds go to an Occupy organization...this week? Seattle!
Hang on a minute! That is already being paid for courtesy of the banksters -JP Morgan

Yikes. I'm a tax-paying New Yorker (who makes just under $32,000/year), and would rather not be helping to fund this. But maybe you all should just take it as a compliment, that you're being taken seriously.
The mayor chose to delegate that much manpower to covering the occupation. Sure, they should have officers there to protect the protesters from people who may try to harm them, but it does seem overboard. The city and the police should be protecting the occupiers right to protest not hinder it. The occupiers do need to be protected there is alot of hate being directed there way by people like Glen Beck, who has a voice that inspires violence and hate towards people whos perceptions on life are different from his.
Who are the JOB CREATORS?
We Are The Job Creators!!!
your welcome NYPD
the funniest thing is, that's OUR money they're spending. we're essentially payin these people to impede our movement.
So, the NYPD has spent $3.4 million in overtime!
Who's fault is that? Is it the fault of OWS, or poor management on the part of the Mayor and the Police Commissioner!
They chose to oppose the right of the people to petition their government for a redress of grievences! You cannot turn around and complain about the money you have to spend when you didn't have to spend it in the first place!
And, anyone who thinks that OWS should be demonstrating in front of the White House instead of Wall Street is not conversant with the facts. Wall Street runs the Government! And that is what the people are rightfully protesting! They are absolutely in the right place to petition the real power behind the Government!
The wasting of $3.4 Million to intimidate a peaceful demonstration of Democracy that is protected by the Constution is on the Mayor not the folks on the street!
"And, anyone who thinks that OWS should be demonstrating in front of the White House instead of Wall Street is not conversant with the facts. Wall Street runs the Government!"
Only because our elected public servants enacted laws and rules allowing it. Our elected public servants only enacted those laws because generations of Americans allowed it.
That is true, and I have great hopes that the OWS movement changes that!
No wonder the ploice have been rather friendly. Looks like they are going to have a really nice xmas,
nypd are usually quite friendly, if you talk to them. but they're hardened also, they know every trick in the book. if you're genuine, they will help you.
They don't need such a large presence, the movement is non violent. Send the cops home they are not needed.
