I think if we could get all the nay sayers and people who kibbitz on this forum and who make all kinds of disparaging and critical remarks about our movement to suspend their disbelief for just one day and come to an occupation without prejudice for just 24 hours it would change their lives.
That's also true of people who say they support our movement but question our tactics. I think just 24 hours at an occupation would completely change their outlook if we could only get them to do it.
I submitted the original post on this list. I'm 68 years old and I have been involved in social protest movements since 1964. My first protest against the Viet Nam war was in 1964 at the local Post Office because that was the only federal building in town, so I'm hardly a kiddie. In my experience OWS is a much more mature and more sophisticated movement than was the student movement of the 1960s. Of course everybody had different experiences an that is all subjective, but in my personal experience I found the movement of the 60s much more anti-intellectual than is today's movement. Also, the student movement of the 60s was never able to reach out successfully much beyond its student base, and for the most part its relationship to the labor movement varied from hostile to indifferent. Today's movement developed a solidarity with organized labor very early on which is probably responsible for the survival of the movement. Also, today's movement is much more diverse an has already reached out well beyond a youth base. There are undoubtedly other useful comparisons but those above are what really stick out for me.
Vietnam Protest we shut schools across america to fight about the war - We shut down Highways- Roads -This is like a bunch of Bitches screaming and chanting for what - we had 1 purpose and got the pres to bring home soldiers - You guys cant close down some shit Stock Exchange lol -Wake up Kiddies lol
hey thanks. If you read my posts http://ows.superunion.org/results/?q=ramous you will see I spent 5 weeks in our local occupy camp. but when oakland happened, we closed it down because ows is getting more violent. We didn't want any part of that. So I dont' consider myself an OWS member any more, but I still consider myself an experienced part of the dialogue.
I'd love to hear your story in detail. If you have a post describing your activity with the Oakland camp, please message me the link. Thanks.
Communist Party, Socialist Party, moveon.org and many other totalitarian solution groups who came out in support of OWS are ALL endorsing Obama for the next election. Think about it. Obama, who bailed out the banks!!!!!Whose financial adviser is Ben Bernanke, the boss of the Federal Reserve. All wings of the same bird my friends, flying in the same direction...Impeach Obama! restore the Constitution!
The SP always runs its own candidates. OWS generally eschew most classical left organizaations, though they have been supportive of OWS.
It seems rather hypocritical. Go to their websites, see for yourself. Also moveon .org...all Obama supporters. I also suspect the people who moderate this site are affiliated to one or several of these organizations. If you haven't noticed all criticism of Obama is filtered out and they have banned several political groups, who are not fascist or racist, but fiercely anti-communist. Why have they banned them? Are they not American citizens?
MoveOn is a perniciious outfit that has tried to capture OWS for the Democrats, so far without success and OWS activists are very critical of MoveOn.
