On a post in this forum on Free/Fair Trade the statement was made that there is no such thing as an American product, in the context of a discussion of the Buy America Act. I couldn't help but get down to it in response to that and wish to share my response with everyone. Here it is:
"no such thing as an american product."
We are finally kind of getting down to it, albeit in the context of "Buy American"
And there is barely such a thing as an American Corporation anymore either. So, why are corporations coming to American taxpayers begging for anything? Why do they take refuge in Washington? Why do they have the Beltway under such a spell? What's in it for the 99-percent? Name one single thing.
If you want globalization you are going to have to sacrifice and sacrifice and sacrifice to America. If you want government support, the support of the people, give them a real reason instead of this Utopian con job.
Because there are protests all over the world as we speak and kids camping in the rain in Zuccotti Park right now who are not buying this dog and pony show, not what Wall Street is peddling and not what Wall Street is getting on Capitol Hill. They are getting concessions when they should be paying damages and investing massively, here.
They own the hearts and minds of economic political leadership: These so called government leaders of ours are guys who would be howling in agony if they had to live like the rest of us are.
They are weak and narrow, they are sheltered and ineffectual. They can't believe they are being told they have to do something.
I'll tell you why our self described powerful multinational corporations turn to America: If they run to Putin, they will be owned by the Russian Mafioso system. If they run to China, they have to give up their civil rights, heck they might even wake up in the morning minus a perfectly good kidney.
No, instead they make fun of kids camping in the rain on concrete while they sleep on their parents' couch, pay no rent, whine all day and run their parents into an early grave.
They slip a piece of paper into the corporate recording office in Delaware and call themselves American.
They are cowards. They say, Mom, I'm going to take over the world from the living room couch, OK?
America's strength is sleeping on concrete tonight, and no one wants to recognize it.
Bloomberg has made himself a tiny man this month, laughably twittering that the protests are harming the NY economy. He wants to power wash them away with a hose. Again, too lazy to pick up a broom. Never even heard of a mop and a broom. People in Zuccotti Park picked up a broom. He's in a panic.
This from a man who made billions off the First Amendment. How can he face his old newsroom after a performance like that? Surely, he will sell the company.
American corporations want to be the "Man without a country." So be it. Get on a boat and float around. See what it gets you.
It's what you deserve: You're traitors.
The Man without a Country... a man with no allegiance but to himself. I'd say, "off with their heads..." (and no I don't mean that literally).
