The Issues of Yesterday and Tomorrow By Sean Metcalf Issues Corporate Greed Tax cuts for the rich Shipping jobs oversees Stagnate wages in America Weighing tax burden on middle class Lobbying = corporate influence over political progress = People< Few individuals Comparison to past-Estates General 1789 - 1st and 2nd estate which are the nobility(1st) and clergy(2nd) = few individuals Third Estate = 99% of population Clergy supply the nobility with church donations which supported there lavish life style Third Estate suffers from economic downtown and react to form National Assembly to overthrow the 1st and 2nd estates power These donations represent our corporations “donating funds” aka lobbying to our politicians These so called “donations” now known as lobbying then influence the balance of power to create a social hierarchy just like Capitalism the only difference between then and now is the merchants a.k.a. Corporations now control majority of the wealth and have become the new age “Nobility” or Elites Third estate, now the 99% bear the tax burden with 1% of the wealth. The French Revolutionaries saw the issue now the American people must look past the illusion and take action. It’s not even remotely fair for anyone to blame the people for their failure when the system doesn’t even allow the people to succeed. This one page barely touches all the issues at hand but it’s a start and you can’t finish anything without a beginning. !
