The Occupy Wall Street movement has inspired me to bring voice to a philosophy that I have always had...the Culture of Self Employment.
There is an entire virtual economy on the Internet that the investment banks can't touch. You can become as rich as you want without any of their money. You don't have to ask anyone for a job.
You just have to be willing to freelance until you build enough clientele to start a business. Once that happens and you incorporate, then you have the same protections as anyone else.
If you gain these protections and keep your counterculture attitude, then you will have the dangerous combination of attitude and resources. Steven Jobs had it. So does Warren Buffett, as far as I know. And Howard Schultz, the Starbuxx owner, too.
If I could change policy I would direct many more resources to teaching people how to incorporate their entire lives - to be a walking self employed money making machine who works on your own schedule, takes vacations whenever, and is able to maintain a brand.
What are your thoughts on this Culture of Self Employment?
I can back you up here, I am on the self employment line. I encourage anyone and everyone to join the club. It's tough at the start but it gets easier I can assure you. I started a couple of years ago by mowing peoples lawns and going around the neighbourhood looking for handyman work. I made $52K after tax last year and didn't work a single weekend. I have a degree in Economics and had no idea which way to hold a hammer when I stared LOL. F the corporations do it yourself.
Unfortunately, while Bush was bad, Obama has created an atmosphere where it is becoming increasingly difficult to be self-employed. Prior to the Obama Administration this country was #3 worldwide on the ease of starting a business, today, after only a little over 2.5 years, this country has moved down to #16, meaning that this government is making competition more difficult, making it harder to be self-employed, making it easier for the government's patronage system to work its malicious magic through Corporatism. Today it is twice as expensive to start a business than it was just 3 years ago, why? Ask the Obama Administration.
You can counter this, I think, by starting smaller and freelancing more, using the resources of the Internet to save on carbon and marketing. There are ways to cut expenses even though it may be more expensive to start a business in the "old way."

I am with you.
Doing this myself and have mentored others. It's the way forward for the unemployed.

can't eat virtual property
A nice little sound bite, which means nothing. What point are you trying to make?
Did you even read what I wrote? The point is to make enough money to buy whatever you want.
Maybe you're talking about the patent reform issue and how they're trying to change it to a "First to File" standard, but I doubt it.

gLee created an atmosphere where self employment became increasingly difficult.
Prior, this country was #3 worldwide for start-up businesses,
this country has moved down to #16,
which means this government makes competition more difficult,
making it harder to be self-employed.
Fewer start-up companies allows the government's patronage to work malicious magic through Corporatism.
Today it is twice as expensive to start a business than it was just 3 years ago, why? Ask the gLee Administration.

there it is. I replaced Obama with gLee cause the time lines are the same
which means this government makes competition more difficult,
there is not enough detail here how?
