I am very proud to report that the colder weather has done the opposite of what the media has expected. Ignore all media rumors! Many more people have come out to show their support for the basic message we are addressing...that is the message that America is not a true democracy if the average person's voice does not get heard.
While the media would like to tear us apart by shifting the focus to the cold weather, we will not play into the media rumor mill. We will keep the focus on the real issues and not let our message get diluted by discussions about weather. We are used to the cold and the overwhelming surge of support that came just yesterday did more to warm our hearts and souls than any media report about shivering protesters can do to break us down. We are stronger than we have been, the Occupy facebook page has over a quarter million people and is about to hit 300,000! Every small town and large city has a local occupy movement to express solidarity and they continue to grow. WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. We have nowhere to go...this is our country and we are proud to live in a country where the 1st amendment of our constitution protects our speech. We will continue to exercise that right.
The occupation is showing signs of success already. Some easier to see than others. For instance, since the protests have brought the focus to the bank's greed they have finally listened to the people and are almost all getting rid of there $60 a year fee for accessing our own money. A small first step in bigger things to come. They told us we couldn't get banks to listen. Well they are listening! They are changing policy based on what the 99% of Americans want.
Other changes that are happening are less tangible. We are noticing everywhere an awakening in America and the world, thanks to this movement. Discussions are happening that didn't happen before. People are talking to each other and even better, people are actually listening to each other. We are realizing that we have more in common than we disagree on. The old political strategy of divide and concur no longer apply in a movement that is fundamentally not politically motivated. This movement does not back any political party or person which is the reason we are able to overcome the usual polarizing topics you see in other protests. 99% of Americans can all unite under one common theme. That is...our voices have not been heard for too long. Corporations have had too much say in how our democracy is shaped and the average American, left, right and center, have had their voices muted for too long. WE STAND UNITED! The American people are strong people our forefathers fought a monarchy and won just to put the constitution in place specifically so that when things weren't working for the people anymore, the people would have the right to express their discontent. I am proud to live in a country founded on the right of their citizens to speak freely. We must not forget WE THE PEOPLE are the ones with the real power. Change is already coming the wheels are in motion this is just the very beginning. We will remain united for we are all Americans and that means being able to listen and discuss without anger differing views, a true democracy is beautifully messy. There are not only two sides, left and right as they would like us to believe, there are many hundreds of facets to this beautiful diamond we call America,we are all learning this as we listen to each other. We all want the same thing, happiness. The Peoples Voices Will Not Be Suppressed. We will stay focused on the issues that are most important to you.
Whoa, Occupy wants to rebuild the "system" yet the very "system" that allows for freedom of expression is being lauded?
Hillary, Contrary to what you may have heard on Fox News, we are all very proud Americans who value our constitutional rights, we are simply trying to make sure that the constitution does what it was intended to do, that is protect the people of America and give them an equal voice in this beautiful democracy. But somewhere along the line Corporations decided they were people, we simply must exercise our rights and bring things back in line a bit. We are not trying to rebuild the system, not sure where you got that message from. The system works perfectly if we all exercise our constitutional rights. We love democracy, that is, we love a true democracy where the real human being's voices are being heard and concerns are being addressed. Not a corporatocrcy where those with extraordinary wealth are the only ones who get to participate. Exercising our constitutional rights is a time honored tradition which every so often helps realign this country when it starts to drift away from the people. I don't think anyone has said they don't like the constitution of America, I am not sure why you are trying to paint that picture. We are all proud to be American and have the right to protest.
You make it sound like corporations made you get that second HELOC so you could get that Harvard education while driving your vintage Aston-Martin , sonny.
The People united, will never be divided.
