I think Occupy should just declare victory, elect a leadership council and vacate the camps. The camps are becoming a major distraction from the "movement". For example, if someone dies of something...anything...in those camps then it will be pinned on Occupy. Already a few have died.
Occupy is so busy trying to maintain the camps that its vision is being diluted and never worked on. In fact, they cant even find time to moderate this website and you see all these trollish posts because they are figuring out how to keep the porta-potties clean or trying to break up some fight at the camp.
It sounds like Zucotti is getting very crowded - I think it would play very well if the OWS moves because it has outgrown its accommodations, rather than because they've been chased out or because winter set in.
Question: is there a way for OWS to partner with homeless groups and submit a formal plan to the city to take over and rehab some abandoned/foreclosed buildings to use for permanent shelters/hostels for anyone who is homeless, whether by accident or design, and make a long term plan to use some of the space themselves, make some of it into shelter space, and eventually somewhere down the line turn it all over to the usual homeless?
I actually agree with this. They should come up with some alternate plan and set a date to close Zucotti. Would have been good to do it Oct 31 but it can be done now.
Focus on accomplishing some goals.
I guess there is one thing we can all agree on. I dont think they will get rid of the camps and as time goes by it will get worse and worse. They should get rid of the camps along with the voting on every single damned thing.
Eventually the police will go in there with tear gas, but this time right behind them will be the pissed of citizeny with rolling pins and baseball bats to assist the police. When the eviction does happen, the public will be in support of it. When Ms Smith, resident of the neighborhood, gets mugged and raped the citizens will roll with baseball bats to assist the police.
If you read the media accounts lately, that is what they report on. The conditions of the camps and of course signs that are extreme, or people that are extreme.
The message is no longer reported on because it hasn't changed and they are not going to just keep reporting that way - so the camps, the violence, the assaults, drunks and drugs get the scoop.
Longer it stays camping worse it will be overall.
