Money = Speech & Speech = Sway then Money = Sway
I can't really boil it down simpler than that.
(Also, speech doesn't seem free at all. It seems terribly, terribly expensive!)
That's spot on! It's time to break out the 'algebraic warfare' on their asses! Recruit a friend to close their BofA and Merrill Lynch accounts!
Sometimes we talk TOO much, and lose the facts deep in the style. Sometimes it's better to just lay it out mathematically.
Money = bribery and money = speech, so how does the Supreme Court reconcile that? The whole idea is just the hite of corruption.
On top of that McDonalds refused to take my speech on Wall Street corruption in lieu of the thirteen dollars I owed them. :(
I tried to avoid incendiary words (I do enough of that in my free time) but yeah, basically.
To me it's more like this. We may be equally right, but if you get 7,000 ad spots and I get one column in the Village Voice, you are going to make your point and I'm not. That's just a fact. I can't reconcile that with 1 man 1 vote.
That's why the amount used on elections should be fixed and publicly funded.
There's a problem with that since we can't bankroll every single candidate who wants to run, but yeah, there needs to be a limit SOMEWHERE. But the first step is fixing the idea that money = free speech.
Luckily, Stephen Colbert is trolling the fuck out of them. It's practically a laboratory on how this stuff can be abused.
