We are an under-used force, a commodity unto ourselves.
So much is said about the smear campaign the media has been on about OWS. Yet, who are we to rely on the media to convey or support our message? We are not a single entity aimed at reaching the masses, we are millions of people with a collective focus. Our burden is not to reach thousands or even hundreds of people. Our burden is only to reach out to a few. . We have something that neither analog nor digital signals can compensate for; we have critical mass. Rather than waves in the sky we occupy real space. Here is how I propose we proceed
There are people in our lives who don't watch much TV, don't read the paper, or listen to the radio. We have the opportunity to reach them. There are people in our lives who drench themselves in the various mediums but, they might only be hearing one side of an argument. We have the ability to reach out and have a discussion with them. Whether it be friends, family , or neighbors there are people in each of our lives who are willing to listen to us. It is a failed notion that one should keep their political and social opinions to themselves. It is time we started talking to those close to us.
Brick and mortar do not process waves of communication. What they can do, is display it physically. In each of our towns, cities, and villages there are grocery stores, churches, post offices etc... where we are able to post fliers. It takes very little effort to print a little information and display it where passers-by can see. What if all those fliers left on car windshields actually had substance? Let us avoid a tragedy of the anti-commons in this respect.
As OWS, we are currently giving voice to many causes and issues. It would be a wonderful thing if each week the General Assembly would vote on an issue of the week. For example, this week we could raise awareness on the pending immunities for bankers. Once a topic is agreed upon a committee can work on creating a concise flier about the issue to be made available, via the internet, for everyone else to download and distribute. For each of the fliers a space can be left on how to contact elected representatives. If they aren't listening yet, they will surely know we're speaking.
Thank you for your consideration, Olas
In choosing sides only a fraction of us are correct. In compromise we are all correct. The war was never left vs. right, it was always against the middle.
Any other ideas are welcome!
