Forum Post: The 99% Declaration Moves Ahead This Week

This will be our most important week to date at the 99% Declaration www.the99declaration.org.. We will be filing the paperwork for tax exempt status. This will allow us to raise money without paying any tax on what we raise. This money will go into a transparent bank account at a small federal credit union.

I have paid for an attorney and CPA out of my pocket and I have hired a producer out of my pocket to make a commercial. We will post the commercial on youtube for your comments before it goes onto television. http://www.the99declaration.org.

While we are an official OWS working group formed and announced to the NYCGA on 10-15-11, http://www.nycga.net/members/the99declaration/, right now, this group does not operate on consensus because we must have direct action to hold the election in March or April at the latest. That will give the delegate time to confer and decide what will be in the petition. The meeting of the National General Assembly will take place in Philadelphia between July 2, 2012 and July 8, 2012. The official convening of the Assembly will be on July 4th for obvious reasons.

We fully support the OWS movement and completely believe in democratic action, hence the election of delegates but this is an ad hoc committee designed to move quickly to get the process moving. I am sorry of that offends people but the details of what we are doing are completely set forth in the actual declaration. Nothing we do is designed to impair or undermine the OWS movement and we hope that all of the active members of OWS run for delegate in their respective congressional districts.

We are mailing copies of the declaration to all 535 members of congress today.
