The idea was put out on the forum that the parade would be a great place to occupy. Thoughts?
Don't ruin it for kids and people who travel far for the parade. It's not their fault.
It's not cool to interrupt with a parade that the kids go to. That would be a PR backfire big time. I think Occupying Fox News Monday morning is an excellent idea but I say leave the parade alone.
boycott Wal-Mart
How about spreading the idea of supporting LOCAL businesses on Black Friday instead of the chains? People ARE going to shop -- let's face it. I'm all about stopping this shopping mania but that's not going to happen in a week. What can happen is diverting people (and their money and minds) to local businesses. What do you think?
Thats Saturday, Small Business Saturday
Yes, but the point is people WILL be shopping on Black Friday. Why not get them shopping at local businesses? They can shop at them on Friday AND Saturday. :)
The question is whether to join a parade or offer an alternative parade. People fear ruining the holiday for families, children, balloons, etc. I have noted that while some profess that the 17th was a great success, some occupiers see the whole day as a big defeat or fiasco, using up all good intentions and focus. Perhaps a joyous spirited thanksgiving, that is, a giving back, giving thanks to all the support that New Yorkers have given the movement, is in order. Perhaps 'Black Friday' could be joyously recolored to a 'celebrate engagement/social action friday.' Music, puppets, theatre, teach-ins for/at mall parking lots or Herald Square. It is an opportunity to engage and educate all the visiting tourists and unenlisted NYC families. That is, if if if OWS still has the heart, the belief, the spirit of generosity so evident across the city these past 2 months.

Occupying a parade is just having a larger parade.
Depends, I suppose, on how it was planned.
