I stand in solidarity with people choosing to put up tents but I am not putting a tent up myself for this reason

Tents, in my opinion, are about the 10th most important thing that we should be fighting for and investing our energy in. We are here to fight for economic and social justice. I understand the reasoning for having a 24/7 encampment where we can gather and coordinate action, but in all reality, if we are there without tents, will it really make a difference in the grand scheme of things to accomplish our goals?? I really am interested to hear an argument that tents are necessary to accomplish the goals of Occupy. I think this movement (nationwide) has been hindered by our insistence to have tents, when there is so much more that we can be doing that is directly in line with our goals for Occupy.

Regardless of my personal opinion, I will be there to show support and I wish you all the best in standing up for what is right. Occupy Forward!!

Call them "assembly weather shields", and emboss them with the U.S. Constitution...

Looks like discussions are taking place elsewhere re. to continue to occupy with tents or without. We have been hotly debating in our Occupy Adelaide GA's as well, and here are some NZ news: http://au.news.yahoo.com/queensland/a/-/latest/12317321/not-just-about-tents-for-occupy-wellington/ Really it doesn't have to be either or, could be both and.... there are lots of strategies to get the movements manage across. What pisses me off that those of us who are for some reason no longer able to occupy with tents are regarded as being less committed to the cause. Like there is some kind of hierarchy??? Anyways, thank you so much for getting the movement started, you are all heroes to me, with or without tents. The world was long overdue for this... and look at the worldwide impact you have had and continue to have. You have in many ways restored people's hope in the basic goodness of the 99%. Wishing you all the best and may we all succeed beyond our wildest dreams. Love and peace from Tamara, Occupy Adelaide South Australia :)

Dont sell your tent. Later on you're going to see tents legalized. Put em up along route, pack up after coffee, move out... That's when you're free. Peace.

Spoken like a true San Diegian (heha, where I'm from, Land of No Climate) . . .really, most of the Country has weather, ergo they sorta need tents for 24/7 encampment.

I'm not going to use a tent anywhere for any reason, but it's not about whether tents are good PR or not, they are necessary for some during Winter, no?....

I come from the Midwest and know that nearing December it's frostbite and hypothermia season.
