Any ideas on how Occupiers will be able to get thru the cold winter months, sleeping on concrete? Do you have any specific requests for donations, to help keep people warm? I suspect the city of NY believes you will all clear out once it gets too cold. If you have a plan, if you need specific supplies to withstand the cold, many of us could help.
There is a fairly cheap and easy way to stay warm in the winter months... Buy a Helios Heater and a army surplus wool blanket. The Wool blanket retains 80% of the heat, even when wet. The Helios Heater is nothing more then a reusable heating pad that heats up to 140°F and lasts for about 3 hours. I use this set up when i go camping in the winter. You can also add in a Mylar emergency blanket, costs about $2.00, and be 100% waterproof and add even more insulation and heat reflection.
Also, if you are sleeping on the ground, you want to put something under you or between you and the ground. a piece of cardboard works just fine.
Actually, alcohol lowers the body temp, and makes you more vulnerable to frostbite. this is actually a serious question. many of us are afraid the Occupiers will become ill or endure frostbite, or worse, give up. We are looking for ways to support the individuals sleeping in the park.
And those would be bad things? Perhaps they should have started the protest in say, I don't know, April?
Come out to san francisco or go down to DC.
This thing will be done by the end of October...don't worry
GREAT suggestions. Keep them coming.
This is a good start. I'm putting out a call to action on all of the FB groups i'm part of. Those last two suggestions were great! Many people want to help. Thank you!
There is no "Idiot" smurf in the village yet. Would you like to audition for the part?
You can only be so warm sleeping in a park. I suspect that the protests will indeed end when it becomes cold because the company that owns the park (it is private property) probably won't allow open fires on their property.
Alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.
