Members of 32BJ are going on strike and having a rally tomorrow. If you want to support, show up at 41st and 5th Ave. at 2:00PM tomorrow, Wednesday Dec. 14.
I wish I could be with you, but I can't. I'm with you in spirit though. I think occupy must make a stand with unions, other than those that have clearly been corrupted and need to be reformed, because union goals are our goals, ecomonic and social justice.
Support janitors, Occupy the border. The flood of unskilled people across our border has oversupplied the labor market and pushed down wages. Protest all you'd like, but until the over-supply is corrected, you'll accomplish NOTHING.
Oversupply isn't going to end. The population is growing!
It could if we'd control our border. Liberals fight enforcement of immigration laws and smear anyone that wants it fixed as racists. But then they cry about poverty and low wages among no skill people. Border enforcement is racist and the poverty that results from non-enforcement is evidence of our society being unjust and unfair.
You might was as well just make this a bigger rally against the concept of supply and demand. It would make about as much sense.
Control of our borders wont help the population expansion problem. The problem with our borders is definitely one of supply and demand, but also one of the living standard. If an immigrant family can come to America and live in an appt building, or they can stay in their home-land and live in a 3-walled shack with no running water, most of those people are gonna try to come to America. We can't blame them either, our ancestors came here and took this land in the first place. Americans are the first intruders. The current wave of intruders just want a better standard of living. Power to them! Invade!
But it WILL stop the expansion of the NO SKILL PART OF THE WORKFORCE THAT COMPETES WITH JANITORS.
No shit, they come here for a reason. But that hardly insulates us, and janitors, from the consequences. They attempt to come here for reasons. They're successful because we don't enforce.
Fight for higher wages for low skill people, fight for border enforcement. Occupy El Paso!
I'll fight for a more equal global system, until that day, I will gladly accept all immigrants, if its worse off where they are from, send them here, till the playing field levels out a bit more. Than we wont have to worry about it.
Cool, but then don't bitch about U.S. poverty, and don't expect much progress with the janitors. Supply and demand can never be protested or cried away.
It also can't just be ignored by keeping people out of our country. This is much bigger than just the U.S.
Not saying to ignore international poverty, I'm just saying that people should understand simply concepts of cause and affect and supply and demand. If you load the country with poor unskilled people, poverty goes up. If you flood the low end of the labor market, wages go down.
Equal pay for janitors and chairmen of the board.
