When we still had an encampment, I came down to Liberty Square Park to see off a small but brave band of marchers who were going to trek to Washington D.C. and arrive there by November 23, the deadline for the so-called super-committee in Congress to work out a deal on budget cuts, or face sequestration, i.e., automatic and draconian cuts. (No better intro than Jon Stewart's: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/11/jon-stewart-hits-the-...)
Paul Krugman believes that the best outcome is failure to reach a compromise. (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/18/opinion/krugman-failure-is-goo...).
On the other hand, Bernie Sanders is afraid that Democrats will do their traditional dance of capitulation (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-bernie-sanders/democrats-stop-...).
There needs to be quick action taken in response if the committee decides to gut social programs so that we may again have the privilege of making the incredibly rich unimaginably rich.
Not sure what might be possible, but a general strike sounds nice to me.
