A suggestion would be that, if the protesters would like to use the restrooms of local businesses, that the sanitation crew find volunteers who will help by cleaning local businesses' restrooms twice a day.
Send out a memo to the local businesses offering them your services in cleaning their washrooms in exchange for using them. Businesses who are willing to accept this deal can signup to have their restrooms cleaned. It may mean that their washrooms have high traffic, but they may appreciate not having to worry about taking staff away from their duties to clean the washroom an extra few times a day.
If a business isn't interested, then suggest that they hang a sign in their window saying "restrooms for patrons only". Protesters can be expected to be refused access to those business' restrooms unless they are paying customers.
As for sound complaints, perhaps if the protesters create a "drumming circle hour" at the same time every day? That will allow protesters to enjoy drumming together at an hour when most of the local businesses won't be busy. For most businesses, that's around 4-5pm, when most people are heading home or just getting off work.
Finally, there have been complaints about protesters yelling at the customers as they walk by. Either yelling their message or yelling at them. I understand we're all passionate, but we wan't people to find us approachable to talk to and ask questions. If people are yelling things at them, it scares them.
These are just some suggestions on improving the relationship with the neighbouring businesses.
