I'm really surprised that with all the violence against the #occupywallstreet protesters that someone hasn't come to the aid of these young people. I say aid in the form of the VFW or the American Legion. Even the local police union to stand up against the corrupt violent police that give the good patrolman a bad name. The police in the field need to man up and turn around and arrest there fellow officers for brutality when they witness extreme violence against a unarmed citizen. The rules of deadly force do not apply to unarmed passive citizens. pepper spray and the baton or the stungun are still considered deadly force. I am prior Army and prior US Marine and I know the rules of deadly force against citizens as well as deadly force against overzealous police officers of the civilian forces. The state highway patrol also knows this and has learned to be honest at times with there use of deadly force. All police officers know and fear the military force called National Guard because the national guard has powers of arrest over the police and can arrest and use deadly force on them. Does this have to happen to these passive protesters? NO just leave them alone and direct vehicle traffic people

I've read it both ways as well. Don't give a reason to provoke the cops and you will be fine. Many of the "peaceful" protesters bring it on themselves. I'm sure if you had some people spewing obscene stuff to you as you did your job, you would be a saint to them.

There may also be people who join OWS just to create trouble with the cops. In an effort to discredit OWS.

It goes both ways too just remember. I've seen plenty of posts here and heard from plenty of folks on the streets that are encouraging malicious behavior in order to get a rise out of the cops and escalate situations to make them look bad...

No deadly force has been used stop over reacting. Yes some of the behavior by police has been inexcusable and I definitely do not stand for it but they haven't used deadly force, don't exaggerate.

Stop making the cops feel threatened. Befriend them. Explain to them that we're fighting for them, too. Help them understand who's side they SHOULD be on.

The Police are part of the 99%! Its about time you guys make them feel like it is their movement too!

What do you expect when even the president is allowed to murder citizens

To be fair, the protesters are no angels...

These idiots forced their way into the Air and Space museum and got pepper sprayed. These are the people that will end up getting shot ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9ht9eyupQ0&feature=related

There is a lawsuit over the Brooklyn bridge arrests.

I agree. Police should be respectful of the people that pay their salaries, as well as other peaceful folks. Thuggery should not be tolerated.

JP Morgan pays the NYPD salaries lately. So they ARE being respectful to said people.

The police chief is elected right?

Not from what I've been reading.

"A Chief of Police (also known as Police Chief or sometimes shortened to just Chief) is the title typically given to the top official in the chain of command of a police department, particularly in North America. Alternate titles for this position include Commissioner, Superintendent, and Chief Constable. In contrast to a US Sheriff, who is generally elected by the voters of a county,... a Chief of Police is usually a municipal employee who owes his or her allegiance to a city or town." source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_of_police#United_States

Looks like a NYPD Chief is promoted. Probably by the Commissioner, who is appointed by the Mayor.

You don't even pay taxes, so you don't pay their salary. You use civil disobedience against the police, you rush the barricades and attack the police, then you whine about them using a baton on you? Good thing this isn't Libya, or Syria, the police would have shot all of you. Mess with a bull, expect to get the horn.

I'm against thuggery either way. I think we should equally respect our police. I'm for law and order, and of course I expect laws that are within our constitution.

I do pay taxes, - a lot of taxes. I own a manufacturing company. I don't think civil disobedience is the way to go about things.
