Hi everyone, we have until October 31st to stop the construction of a natural gas pipeline under the West village transporting radioactive Marcellus shale gas from upstate hydraulic fracturing reservoirs in upstate New York to satisfy "natural gas need" for homes in New Jersey and New York. The project is Initiative 15 of New York City Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC.

OWS is all about justice for the little guy, don't let Bloomberg push through this misguided energy policy!!

INFO:

  • In September 2010 a smaller lower-pressure pipeline exploded in suburban San Bruno CA the result: 8 dead 51 injured 38 homes razed 4 story deep craters

  • On June 2011 the pipeline was cited for 17 inadequacies in its safety operations and procedures

  • The builder of this pipeline received Environmental Protection Agency's seventh-highest penalty on record for discharging PCBs at 89 sites along a 9,000 mile pipeline.

  • The pipeline will run under the Hudson River

  • Only 7% of pipelines are subject to mandatory inspection. Mandatory inspection is required once every 7 years.

  • According to the peer-reviewed 2010 Stanford University study: by using technologies ALREADY AVAILABLE, there could be a global transformation to renewable power by 2030. It may be a stretch, but this is the same time frame PlaNYC aims to convert all of NYC to gas. THIS IS NOT NECCESSARY.

I agree but this is a direct result of money and politics mixing and producing some unpleasant results. I really think this is in the spirit of the movement. Of course i don't want the OWS movement to get distracted, I think it needs to stay as centered as it can. but if you can spread the word, please do.

More stuff?

Look we are just trying to limit outsourcing, rich guy tax cuts, and corporate influence on politics.

I don't believe we should bite off more we can chew.
