Forum Post: STOP THE CHILDISH BICKERING. Those are the tools of the megacorps!

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Give up the divisive nature that has been engrained in us. Whether you are democrat, liberal, tea partier, socialist, or hard core OWSer, I guarantee you will be more satisfied if you stop name calling and engage in thoughtful discussion.

The megacorps would WANT us to engage in childish bickering, because hate is easy to control. Treat your opponent as human.

I suggest reading this short guide, and bump this topic or repost if you agree: http://vcn.bc.ca/citizens-handbook/gandhi.html

BIG THUMBS UP!

I fully support this post.

It makes no difference what people talk about here - the tens of thousands on the ground at OWS and other occupations already know the Truth.

Here is where everyone else can reconcile their confusions.

That's true enough - I think the media is ignoring these particular forums because of all the misinformation they've gotten from here. I think the media is now doing a half-decent job of summarizing what OWS is after, unlike a week ago when they were laughing at us.

Mahatma Gandhi’s methods for converting an opponent

Conversion is the process by which an opponent comes around to embrace your objectives.

1 Refrain from violence and hostility.

2 Attempt to obtain your opponent’s trust through ...~ Truthfulness ...~ Openness about intentions ...~ Chivalry (kindness if the other side experiences an unrelated difficulty) ...~ Making behavior inoffensive without compromising the issue at hand

3 Refrain from humiliating an opponent.

4 Make visible sacrifices for one’s cause. ...Ideally, make the suffering of the aggrieved visible.

5 Carry on constructive work. Address parts of the problem you can address. ...Make improvements where you can. Participate in activities regarded by ...everyone as benefitting everyone.

6 Maintain contact with the opponent. ...This is absolutely necessary if conversion is to succeed.

7 Demonstrate trust in the opponent.

8 Develop empathy, good will and patience toward the opponent.

This is the best you can do from your end. External conditions may still prevent conversion. "

Yeah well, but bickering is all that is allowed on this forum. You can't vote, no polls are being taken, so it's just an endless stream of messages passing down into oblivion.

It's time the persons behind this website start looking into this, it's making OWS a laughing stock. Seriously.

it's still a useful center of mining ideas

I agree - I think we should spread to other forums, like Facebook or Reddit (or other places?). This forum was sane at one time, but hasn't handled the extra people very well.

Holy crap it must be sunrise in Cali already with the Gandhi quotes. But you are right. Unity is key.

I also recommend http://suntzusaid.com/ The Art of War because the opposition has read Gandhi too.

I'll take a look at that, though I have to go to work now!

A very good posting which partly inspired this (long read but a sight for sore eyes): http://occupywallst.org/forum/divide-and-conquer-a-brief-primer-and-some-relevan/

Sorry, I meant whether.
