Stop paying your student loans in solidarity with the brutal crackdown of Occupy Oakland and occupiers across California. An Iraq war veteran suffered a fractured skull when he was beaten by the Oakland Police "Goon Squad". He is in the hospital and is listed in "serious condition".

How do I show solidarity with the Oakland police department? By paying my loans? I think I will pay triple next time. I have no clue what that has to do with Oakland but ok.

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

So why don't you go down to Oakland and fight your way through the tear gas to tell those nice policemen that you are in solidarity with them. You might get lucky to get close enough to those goons to get your head bashed in and then you'll really be paying triple. Idiot

Did you actually go to college?

You are concluding each of your statements with an ad hominem attack, which either is brilliant or ignorant.

[-] 1 points by demonspawn79 (186) 13 years ago

Ding! Ding! Ding!

You have just used the phrase of the day, "ad hominem"!! Ed, tell him what he's won!

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

Give it up dude you're boring me. Your arguments are shallow and revealed your gross ignorance of the subject matter. Attacking my grammar? Seriously? Your grammar is also brilliant.

"how does stopping paying student loans..."

[-] 1 points by armchairecon (138) 13 years ago

if you think an 'ad hominem attack' is grammar... i rest my case

Edit: it wouldnt have been THAT hard to have googled something you didnt understand rather than plunge ahead with an argument in wits you will never win.

since it is obvious you are part of the entitlement generation that needs everything spoon fed to you: An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an attempt to negate the truth of a claim by pointing out a negative characteristic or belief of the person supporting it. (wikipedia)

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

Yawn. Look son, I have been out of college for 20 years. you can go on and sit there and twiddle your thumbs at this ad hominem crap. I'm going to bed. At least I have a job.

how does stopping paying student loans mean you are standing in solidarity with the injured man? why dont you chip in and help with his medical bills? or why dont you send a card to his family? i think those actions would be more meaningful.

This heroic man when interviewed stated that he was down there to protest against the greed of the banks. So who do think your paying your student loan interest to?

KNOCK! KNOCK! HEY MCFLY!

[-] 1 points by armchairecon (138) 13 years ago

student loans are backed by the government. if you dont pay the banks, the government will.

i could write something as witty as 'knock knock mcfly' or i could just tell you to get yourself an education so you know what the hell you are protesting about

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

You should continue with your education. I already got mine. Where have you been dude? You must get out of that moldy closet you're in.

Oh gee, was there something called a "bail out" that the banks got to the tune of about a trillion dollars? You are very naive or just plain stupid to think that it's ok to bail out the banks but not the students? Do you think that those bankers stayed awake at night morally distraught thinking "Oh gosh, if I don't pay those trillions of dollars I lost by gambling with risky derivatives then the government will pay it for me".

If you guys represent the best minds of this movement, then we are doomed.

[-] 1 points by carlmarks (3) 13 years ago

If the bank did not give you the loan no school, wake up

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

If the banks and corporation didn't hijacked our democracy and financial system, your schooling would have been for free! That's the kind of mentality that these bankers love. They throw crumbs at you and your suppose to feel grateful. You are either ignorant, unimaginative, or a tea bagger hack.

YOU wake up! What the hell do you think this movement is about?

[-] 1 points by armchairecon (138) 13 years ago

when was schooling ever free? how would you pay the professors or keep the electricity on?

im not exactly sure what YOU think this movement is about. Its not about free stuff for the masses. Its this mentality that will prevent OWS from ever gaining any traction.

[-] 1 points by Ninety9to1 (37) 13 years ago

Yeah you're right it's not about "free stuff for the masses" it's about free stuff for the few.

And again you are right. "Its this mentality that will prevent OWS from ever gaining any traction."

[-] 1 points by armchairecon (138) 13 years ago

does your comment acknowledge you are just protesting so that people can get free stuff?

college isn't a right, its a privilege. if kids cant appreciate what a college education can accomplish for 30k a year (ie; they need to make a careful decision as to whether it is worth it to pay 30k/yr for an art history degree, or is it better going to a state college for 3k for art history, and decide how this college degree is going to help them reach their goals.. beyond 'i need it to get a job' ), they certainly arent going to appreciate it for free.

Look dude do I have to spell it out for you?

The bankers got a trillion dollar F-R-E-E. They didn't loan this money back out to the small businesses. They hoard the money and turned around and socked it into government bonds that made them billions of dollars in interest. They also didn't pay a dime in taxes for the last 3 years and got hundreds of millions of dollars in refunds by claiming a loss. They had funneled any profits they did have to their overseas businesses.

I work hard for everything I got and I expect these fat cats to do the same.

With the astronomical cost of college these days, College IS a privilege, but only for the privileged.
