Why does the government give work visa's to people from India and other countries to come here to America to work when America's unemployment is so high? Why can't Congress stop the work visa and put our own American people back to work? How come nothing is ever heard about that??
That would definitely be a good idea to start with. Problem is, that would require some way to get a whole group of bright but not particularly well-off people to get degrees in science, engineering, and economics/management which someone's going to have to pay for.
All it would take is enough people with balls demand from their congress men to stop it or be voted out. If they can't stick up for the American worker they shouldn't be voted back in.
Agreed. See thisfor what I think about accomplishing that: http://occupywallst.org/forum/we-want-change-thats-great-now-how-do-we-implement/#comment-205283
You have some good points and ideas. Where can you take it from here?
I'm personally not in a position to organize (I'm in Cambridge, MA right now doing my first semester at MIT and I can't let that slip) or physically get involved in these things. I'm looking at putting up a petition on Change.org based on this text calling on people to pick a candidate to challenge incumbent representatives in need of correction
Work visas should be given to highly skilled workers for jobs that cannot be filled by Americans. Makes no sense to give a work visa for an accountant from India. However, if there is a mechanical engineering job at the jet propulsion lab that cannot be filled by a highly specialized individual in the US, then I think the US should welcome the foreigner to come to the US and make the US company better and more competitive. Makes no sense to reject the work visa application, and have the genius work for a competitor in China who does an amazing thing and ultimately makes the foreign company better than the US company and ultimately causes the US company to fold.
Why can't people just get a job at Safeway? They always have open positions. So do McDonalds. And many other fast food places. Along with gas stations and delivery service companies. Where I live there is places that will hire. For not much experience needed. Is it maybe because some people are too lazy to find a job? Or is it because it doesn't pay enough for them so they don't take it?
its a idiot that thinks people don't look for jobs. Do the math, number of jobs available compared to amount of unemployed Americans. When you're unemployed and have a family you take any job you can get. Wake up
The problem is that a lot of people don't want to work. They think they're too good for certain jobs. They'd rather live a little lower of a lifestyle on unemployment than actually earn what they have.
