In this age of youtube, a violent protest can do a lot more to hurt your cause then help it. Another thing is these encampments. Are these camps doing more to help or hurt the cause? If the goal is to sway public opinion, how does a slum-like camp sway public opinion? Do you think people are happy to see settlements of homeless in the middle of their city?
No, I do not think the majority of the population approve of homeless settlements in the middle of their cities. In fact, in most cities, they are against the law. I think attraction of more of the 99% would be more successful if OWS NY used their half million in donations to rent halls, take to the streets and actively hand out information fliers and inviting them to hall assemblies. This goes for all cities. Look at the many tent cities in the US! Most cities are banning them for people that have lost their jobs, homes and their lives. Most cities, also, ban the homeless in general from sleeping in public areas. Why do people that are occupying think they deserve free rent and food? Please google: tent cities in america 2011 Actually, I would like to see donations of money and food going to these people and the people protesting pay their own way!
Isn't the primary goal to Occupy? At least for now.
and the question of the day is the "Occupying" helping or hurting the cause? How is it effecting people's perceptions and opinions? Do you believe most people welcome the Occupations?
Occupy's cause came to be known through occupying, and the people's perceptions and opinions in relation to Occupy would not even exist if no occupying had taken place. I don't know if most people welcome the occupations, I haven't read the polls. Last I checked, the movement was growing. Don't get me wrong, I am not a supporter of Occupy. However, it seems to me the whole goal is to occupy, so asking them not to occupy is essentially asking them to stop the movement which, obviously, they won't do. It's like asking bankers to stop counting money.
