Some guys in silly white masks told you to occupy wall street and you did. Do you know how silly that seems to the rest of the world watching you all make a spectacle of yourselves.

Someone told you that you need to get on the treadmill of the capitalist economic engine and you did.

That's funny.

Someone told you to pay taxes for the Rothschild's tenth yacht ... and you did.

That is funny.

No one told you to make an ass of your intellect on the internet to strangers but you managed, how is supporting institutional change on a societal level any less meritorious?

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

Well I suppose I had that one coming. It was my understanding that Anonymous was the first to coin the phrase occupywallstreet. I was misinformed. I admit it. They certainly were a big part of the marketing efforts for your movement. So my initial statement isn't entirely incorrect.

Less meritorious than what. What are you referring to?

[-] 1 points by Madhusudana (90) 13 years ago

Dude, to tell you the truth I didn't know Anon even had a part in supporting this till well after the fact. That being said though, if anything it can only add credibility, not detract from it- they're a respected group by anyone who follows geopolitics and civil rights. Which, as it so happens, are the main demographic we see being both supported and represented n the street (if you follow indy news as opposed to mainstream corporate news).

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

I've been very skeptical of the entire movement because I knew that they were a part of it. Yeah they are funny and they put on quit a theatrical performance but it seems to me that if you want gain public support, choosing hackers to promote your message is sort of a bad idea.

[-] 1 points by Madhusudana (90) 13 years ago

I completely understand what you're talking about.

If we're going to be realistic about it it's only fair to bring up the fact that any and every movement is defined as a summation on it's parts, and in this case one of the groups that supports this movement happens to be a notorious group of hackers.

It's similar to in Iraq when a sunni insurgent group backs a sunni political party- but does it mean the party is flawed just because a group you may not like supports it?

Only if you let the establishment sully the group on that basis.

That's not even really a valid comparison if you're able to judge things by their merit as opposed to on the basis of politically biased talking points. If Anon posted a message that means they're acting in an informational or organizational role, not a formulative one.

I started it. So kill me.

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

No really. You all don't stand a chance if you cannot at least all admit who started this whole thing. It's probably a good idea to do some research before you go head first into a mass protest.

[-] 1 points by undercover88 (7) 13 years ago

Actually anonymous pushed this before adbuster's but hey its all good.

and calling someone a troll when they are being a troll isnt hurting anything.

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

You really don't get it. Wow. I didn't expect to find this level of denial. Everyone knows about Anonymous. Your going to have a very hard time convincing the world, let alone me, that your are serious if you don't at least address the Guy Fawkes mask anomaly.

[-] 1 points by RAWright (35) 13 years ago

That is not the reason we did it. It may seem silly but it deals with many underlying issues that have been ignored for the past decade. People want to see a change in the way the government is handling things. In the way big business is conducted, they want affordable but quality health care and insurance companies who don't reject those who need it most. I personally want America to start taking constructive action in whatever way they can. I don't want to see all this communist preachy nonsense. I want us to work together to make something of this opportunity, to educate each other about upcoming elections and how to organize peaceful, goal oriented protests. Do you agree with that?

Those who aren't angry yet still haven't felt the sting of our sagging economy. OP, read this link to get an idea of why we're all so angry: http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/

You're all acting as puppets in this demented social prank.

[-] 1 points by powertothepeople (1264) 13 years ago

It would be really, really funny if this was just some social prank. Epic lulz, right?

but as someone who has been to Zucotti park a few times, I simply don't think that's true

It's much more "organized" (although loosely) than the media is portraying it to be.

I'm assuming your message is serious, so I gave you a serious answer.

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

Given my initial belief that this was originally conceived by Anonymous, to call it a prank wouldn't be to far from the truth. But as it turns out they are only 1/3 of the movements marketing team. There is little doubt in my mind now that this movement represents an honest attempt to destroy capitalism.

[-] 1 points by AN0NYM0US (640) 13 years ago

Says the one too afraid to stand up against injustice. BTW Anonymous didn't start this movement, they just supported it.

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

I've conceded to this point below. From what I can tell the movement was marketed to the masses by 3 separate groups; Adbusters, US Day of Rage, and Anonymous. It's anybody's guess who proposed the idea. Stephen Lerner? Wade Rathke? Jed Brandt? David Graeber?

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

But how can you say that? Anonymous put out a bunch of videos calling people to wall street on the same date that it all started. That is some coincidence.

[-] 1 points by AN0NYM0US (640) 13 years ago

It was started by Adbusters. Anonymous just heard about it and helped spread the word

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

You couldn't be more incorrect my friend. This is an Anonymous movement. Everyone there is supporting the Agenda of the masked vigilantes whether they know it or not.

[-] 1 points by AN0NYM0US (640) 13 years ago

.... Really. Did you really tell me I don't know what I'm talking about....

Okay, here is how this went down.

In June Anonymous announced "The Plan" which told people to learn more about the injustice in this world and spread the word

In August, Adbusters announced the plan for Occupy Wall Street. Whether they did so in solidarity with Anonymous or not is unclear and unimportant. (Key word in this sentance is solidarity)

September, Anonymous learned of Occupy Wall Street and called for support of it by members of Anonymous.

So yes, some people there are aware of anonymous. But many of them don't even know what Anonymous is.

PLUS, I don't think YOU know what Anonymous is. EVERYONE is a part of Anonymous unless the specifically announce they are not.

[-] 1 points by onesquarelight (60) from Wormleysburg, PA 13 years ago

The first mention of #OccupyWallStreet appears to be July 13th by Adbusters. The first Anonymous video mentioning #OccupyWallStreet was posted on YouTube on August 22 (It's been removed). As early as August 10, the group US Days Of Rage also aligned with the #OccupyWallStreet plan for September 17. So you, sir, seem to be correct. The guys in silly white masks were only 1/3 of the movements original marketing efforts. My sincerest apologies.

Question for you. Who decided what individuals make up the OWS General Assembly?

[-] 1 points by AN0NYM0US (640) 13 years ago

Everyone is invited to the General Assembly. It was a general invitation and whoever showed up had a say.

[-] 1 points by undercover88 (7) 13 years ago

troll.

[-] 1 points by RAWright (35) 13 years ago

Stop calling people trolls it hurts the cause. Thank you. :)

[-] 1 points by equazcion (688) from New York, NY 13 years ago

If you think that's the reason we did it, you can keep laughing. We don't mind.

It's the lemming syndrome. One follows the other until they all go over the cliff.

I'm frankly getting tired of this whole exercise because so few people in this movement can put two sentences together. I said it before and I will say it again. The whole movements shows how poorly educated our young people are today. Expect to be called a "troll" many, many times. It's their way of saying they can't find their communist manifesto. Wait a minute, it's there under the bong!
