I want to make this clear right away, I am not suggesting in any way that we have leaders. We need to become our own leaders. However working in large groups with people we have only just begun to understand and appreciate can be challenging. The independent bureaucracies created by large working groups will slow down the road to consensus building as your number increase. Even defining terms can be challenging with people from different educational backgrounds. Of these facts I think we can all agree.

I suggest a simple solution to this problem that could be implemented nationwide in a matter of hours.

  1. Everyone individually establish your own group; totaling 3 occupiers.
  2. Decide as a small group how to best serve the Movement
  3. Have each small Group of three elect one to attend GA's and working groups and act as (representative / liaison) Between the GA and the other 2 members. This position would be by no means permanent and each small group should think carefully each day whose skills can be spared to Discuss while the others Act.
  4. The remaining two are now freed to act as seen most fit and the GA may still continue as normal.

There are countless benefits to this organization. You will still be able to hold open GA and working groups to discuss important topics such as possible Demands, Plans of Action and Maintaining daily Sustenance / shelter. At the same time you have will 66% of your group free to act daily as their small groups see best fit until otherwise compelled by the GA.

I want you to know I am from Occupy Tucson and Ive been out here since Oct 15th, I go home every day to read the news from different occupy movements across the nation and what we have accomplished is amazing. He have Blockaded the 1%'s Ports, Court Houses, Parks, Banks, Elite Dinners Galas, and the mother of all Wall Street herself. But, at the same time we face diffusion from a number of adversaries. Police violence is escalating nationwide and now the media threatens to discredit us with the violent acts committed by dozens out of a movement which contains millions worldwide.

If we are to survive we must learn to change as our numbers grow. The system was developed for small groups of people. I think it has proven very successful. However, we have grown quickly, perhaps more quickly than anyone expected. We must take the GA model and develop it for larger scales of people. Your men and women need more time than they have, this will give it to them.

I understand what you are saying but I think you may have missed part of the point. It is not necessary that everyone attend the GA once and twice a day. If only 33% of your population are requested to Attend the Open GA; 66% of your dedicated occupiers to be out demonstrating, passing out fliers, obtaining supplies or what have you. This small group structure would also increase loyalty and safety because when someone leaves, or is otherwise missing, the remaining two members of the small group presumably have contact information and know this person well. Working group’s members could spear head this transition by creating their own independent groups of three as an example for others to follow. Let’s face it the GA is about as effective at communication / consensus when 1000, people attend it as 10,000. Once your population hits 100,000 you will be completely unable to disseminate information from the GA to the population. These sprouts of violence are the beginnings of a breakdown in control from the consensus GA. You need to foster peaceful independent control soon b4 things go too far. I have posted these suggestions on every occupy website, please Bring this matter up to your GA like I did with mine. I can’t travel the country.

but a large number of GA attendants are “unorganized,” meaning that they are not affiliated with any committee, caucus, or working group. people are free to enter and leave a GA as they choose. if there was a way to have neighborhoods represent and take on rotating roles, if they desired to do so, that would be interesting as well.

One Bump for the people, and all i meant by #2 was that we should each take control of the movement in a small way.
