So let me get this straight, basically the message of your group is "Hey you guys are rich, give us your money because we went $80,000 into debt to get a degree that's not workable in the real world" So that's about the gist of it right? A bunch of pissed off college kids with degrees in fine arts and drama and you can't get jobs to pay off your ridiculous loans. Get over yourselves, everyone in America is hurting right now, and not only that you're protesting people who can't really do anything about the way the governments run. If you must bitch and moan and not contribute in any way to society, then why not protest congress? They're the one's who are suppose to look out for the well fare of our country but all they've done is whine and moan about whose fault it is the economy is in the shape it's in (Sound familiar?). So you wanna change the world? Well then volunteer, become involved in local government (it helps to know procedure when dealing with the government instead of angrily yelling at buildings and people on the street) or get a job, if you're thousands of dollars in debt, I'm sorry but you're not too good to flip burgers. I am not a liberal, democrat, or a republican just and observer. Don't bother with your petty comebacks I have little to no intention of visiting this site again.
Hi. I have a job. I still care. And no. It's not about a handout. It's about people that have broken the system that makes the country run (yeah, it was derivatives markets and institutionalized bribery not student loans. Not sure how you made that leap) and rigged the game so that they are the only ones winning. It's about the growing inequality that will lead to some terrible places economically. So no. No that's not what it's about.
I agree with you about the need to work within the system.
But as far as the whole "get a job" excuse for an argument goes? You're not flipping burgers either - and I doubt you would if your job was outsourced to someone with the same skills who works for less. If you really think that way, go out and create a job, or if you don't own a business, mentor someone that's at risk (volunteering - as you mentioned) so they can be a productive member of society. Act, don't complain. Otherwise you're no different than the OWS members you criticize.
They're not outsourcing the service jobs. There was a great video of some headhunters in DC with over a hundred job applications who visited the DC version of the protest movement. Some of the jobs paid over $27 an hour with full benefits. People had every reason under the sun why those jobs weren't their answer and why they weren't the right jobs for them. The headhunters left with only TWO applications filled out. Its on a you tube video, its priceless. Individuals working aren't the whole answer, but personal responsibility is part of it.
