This is, I think, the most important and least controversial of our concerns, and the one that can be most honestly claimed to reflect the beliefs of 'the 99%'.

A grotesquely disproportionate concentration of wealth has led to grotesquely disproportionate political influence. The fact that the wealthiest 1%, with their capacity to make huge campaign contributions and fund professional lobbyists to push their agenda, make a mockery of democracy in the US. It may be a far more convincing illusion of democracy than those illusions of democracy that are typical of third world countries, but it is an illusion nonetheless.

This is not an issue that should divide left leaners from right leaners; it should resonate with all people who desire authentic democracy - a system wherein politicians are not openly bid for. All reasonable, rational people guided by facts and not ideology should recognize the need for the separation of wealth and state, and how the failure to do so has corrupted our democracy.
