Forum Post: Send to Congress!

Here is the letter I wrote to my Congresswoman and Senators:

Obviously, the wording can be changed, but if EVERYONE writes Congress we WILL have a huge impact - much as the TEA PARTY did. If there are enough people, we can request meetings with representatives and senators. I am in the 36th District of California. Anyone else?

Dear xx,

I am a voting member of your congressional district, and I would like to know what you are doing to return our nation to a more sustainable economic condition. In particular, the lobbying structure and the financial regulatory system have led the country to disaster, and I would like to know how you as a Congressperson are contributing to change. I would like updates on:

1) The potential reinstatement of Glass-Steagall or a similar law, 2) Control of corporate spending on elections, 3) Implementation of FAIR taxation in order to close corporate loopholes and tax those earning over $1,000,000 a year, 4) Changes to the SEC and continued prosecution of financial criminals from the 2008 crisis, 5) Additional efforts to increase corporate taxation and rein in corporate spending in Washington.

As you no doubt know, OccupyWallSt has gained tremendous momentum nationally. In our district, we see the opportunity to elect someone who will be a real advocate for change in Congress, and I believe you have that ability. Our district is made up of educated, capable of individuals, and we desperately need someone on the Hill to fight our battle.
