I have been watching the pepper spray victims, and there is a simple solution: send swim goggle. These will protect the eyes from pepper spray, especially if you run a ring of petroleum jelly around the edge of the goggle to create an air-tight seal.
That is exactly what I had planned on bringing!!
but I think a quality gas mask is better.
Yes but the eye Pain is intolerable that is what debilitated youths burning sucks on skin and stuff but you can function( like a crazed pissed off dude) but u can function
There are varieties of swim goggles like Aqua Sphere Eagle Goggles which are helpful to prevent fogging and comfortable while swimming. For detailed information you may prefer http://www.aquagear.com/aqua-sphere-eagle/.
The goggles help, and they are more affordable than gas masks. Plus, it is a great show of solidarity (and an "Up yours" to police brutality) for hundreds of people to send goggles - which are on markdown racks right now for a couple bucks each.
Yes, skin will burn. But it's easier to wash the oil off of skin than eyes. It's better to see. And, if the pepper spray doesn't debilitate people, the police may stop using it.
No they will just switch to using riot gas its the same thing just in a cloud of smoke to disperse a whole crowd not just a few people.
If they switch to riot gas, that would be a huge PR fiasco for the city. There's already a lot of flack about the unnecessary use of pepper spray and truncheons. Riot gas would turn this into another Bonus Army fiasco.
The last thing you want to do is give them ANY reason to escalate the tactics being used, it never turns out well coughWacocough.
Why do you think wearing goggles would do that? And how well do you think that would play out for Wall Street? Oh my god, they have on swim goggles! This must not stand! Pepper spray is nasty for the individual's eye tissues. People should be protected. And the riot gas would shut down Wall Street in a way that the marchers cannot. That stuff permeates, and it would cause problems for the people in the business.
I am not talking about any sort of violence toward the police. (Ultimately, they are part of the 99%.) I am not talking about rushing into buildings or destroying property. Those would be giving them reasons to escalate. If they escalate because people are wearing swim goggles, it would not be the protesters GIVING them a reason. It would be them choosing to do it without provocation. And that could happen at anytime anyway.
If the goggles would work as well as you are stating the police would have to switch to another method to control the protesters.
As you said "if the pepper spray doesn't debilitate people, the police may stop using it.", they are not going to just give up they will use something else like gas, or Tasers, or night sticks.
You will know they are going to use gas when the cops show up in full riot gear.
Pepper spray works on more then just the eyes it reacts with the skin, mouth, and nose.
Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent. It causes immediate closing of the eyes, difficulty breathing, runny nose, and coughing. The duration of its effects depends on the strength of the spray but the average full effect lasts around thirty to forty-five minutes, with diminished effects lasting for hours.
The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical chili peppers.
To sum it up and quote Rainier Wolfcastle from The Simpsons....
"The goggles, they do nothing!"
