I'm not sure I agree with this but let's see what happens in the next few days;

This apparent inability of the PTB to adjust the election schedule to confirm with the reality of a once in a hundred year catastrophic natural calamity is one more sign, if another one is needed, of the obsolescence of the present political system. It has to be replaced.
What has the present political system ave to do with any of this?
A political system which really wants people to vote would empower the president at a time like this to postpone the election. Many people will not be able to vote due to the tremendous damage to their communities and properties. Many will not be able to get to their appointed polling places and some of those polling places may now not even exist as structures with electricity, etc.
Postponing an election on the decision of one person? Are you serious?
Could be a committee of cabinet members, whatever. The thing we should be concerned with is that possibly millions of lawfully registered voters who want to participate in the electoral process may not be able through no fault of their own to do so. Given the razor thin margin the winner is likely to have this could put the very legitimacy of the government into further doubt and disrepute. Is that what you seriously want?
I'm in WI and the damage and from sandy looks extensive to me. I'll give Obama credit for saying he'll stick to the law. He's in no position to do otherwise. The anarchists who control OWS won't want to suggest postponing because they're idiots.
The damage to NYC and nearby areas is of a once on three lifetimes magnitude, though with the issue of carbon in the air it might become one of once in a year. Another sign that this political system does not work in the interests of society. There should be a "Manhattan Project" involving carbon reduction and geoengineering and there should be a political entity with the authority to get it started.
