We have several threads devoted to music for OWS. I thought perhaps that we needed a thread for a what are you listening to currently. Just to keep it easy.

MaryS, thanks for this reminder. For this rest of my life, I won't forget what happened there. We still need to learn this lesson.
I am so grateful to all protesters out there, willing to put themselves in harm's way for this cause. Love you guys.
"What The World Needs Now"
I just wish I could know that this will never happen again. The fact is, its happening all over the world at this very minute. We need to think about this globally. I sense it coming...I'd give anything to be wrong. Be safe, be well...

Thanks, I was really touched by that - "judge your progress by the phases of the moon." Yes, and by the quality of those who love you. Those things are the progress that matters; that, and the journey which opens new vistas, new adventures, new fields of struggle for what you believe. That's a meaningful life.
And this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGjaaQAvSTA
And if you don't like it...Fuck You.
That was great!
Thanks HitGirl. Alanis Morissette - Hand In My Pocket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGjaaQAvSTA
Keepin a positive frame of mind as we move forward.
She keeps me sane.
It is good to recognize and make use of spiritual health.

Lauryn Hill is one of the bravest artists today, for standing up to TPTB in the music industry. She wouldn't sell her soul and they screwed her over terribly, for it. 10 years later, she still stands up for her convictons. And what a voice!
People are so amazing.
Talking Heads, girlfriend is better - live. http://youtu.be/kuoiRr6hLjg
Don Felder, all of you - kickass cover band. http://youtu.be/fQ-HZIKarms
Also, Talking Heads, the lady don't mind. Stevie Nicks, blue lamp. Fleetwood Mac, the chain. The Doors, waiting for the sun. Crosby Stills Nash, wooden ships. Neil Young, natural beauty. Groovy.
"The wise man listens to the forest's song"

Wow! You're right...I hadn't heard of him. These people have 'melody' flowing through their veins. They'd probably wither and die if they couldn't create music.
At the end of each evening (especially after I've been here, lol!), I listen/watch/read some form of transcendental meditative art form. I prefer my eyes closed, so mostly music, but can be poetry/photography as well.
Musical genre is of no consequence. If it is done with quality, I like it all. Your picks here certainly qualify as meditative....and I shall add them to my repertoire. Thanks again shooz!
Glad you enjoyed them..........................:)
It's music that affects the spirit in positive ways.
Rich in rhythm, beat and melody.
BTW I'm a bit of a photographer and enjoy bending all over to get macros of flowers. Preferable wild flowers, but I can't always be choosey.
Yep! Music is the great uniter. Its been interesting to see how the use of music rises during difficult times...and troubled times seem to bring out the best of it in people. Youtube is remarkable for this...we have to protect the net!
Photography is incredibly rewarding. How lucky you are.
My brother and I both took photography in school. He went on to make a part-time career of it. I got busy with other things and let it slide. I still enjoy doing it, though not professional...and I always appreciate a good artist when I see one.
Seems like the perfect thread for a photograph. Have you got one you can share with us?
I have many, but have no idea how to post them here.
Ah..good 'nuff...a song then.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FUSKO_6NFA&feature=related
Thanks for that........:)
Try these guys.
Victor Wooten is finest bassist ever.
Fleck plays a pretty fine banjo too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPBmyFsfyPc
Very smooth shooz! The flute player 'Jeff Coffin' stood out as exceptional too. I'm getting to the point where I feel a glass of Merlot coming on. Good music and good wine.

I like it when people find new ways to play traditional instruments...

I figure a couple more songs, and that's it for me tonight. This morning, I thought I was gonna write this real cool post on a new CO2 energy...and then I saw that this Aussie dude had beaten me to it..^.~
So then I thought it would be good to write about hemp as an indirectly related topic, but I had to go out and decided to do it when I got back...but when I came back, these other two dudes DKA and Shadz had already thought of it. So here I am working on something for tomorrow. : )
'Pink' - Dear Mr. President - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eDJ3cuXKV4
I love Pink, and that song in particular rings lots of bells with me.
I'm a gypsy, so this track from 1990 (my son's birth year) is always with me.
http://youtu.be/pCUnzcUMJHc

We lost our Chrissie Amphlett to cancer this week. The breast cancer org wants permission to use her song "I touch myself" for their advertising campaign.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1lytua2dh4
Thanks for the link, Builder. I've saved and put it with similar information about Cannabis Oil. I believe it is a true treatment of cancer. Please consider also the importance of keeping the body alkalinized. PH balanced so as to 'prevent' cancer from happening in the first place. We need to hit it from all angles. This link is particularly interesting. His website is also listed in the description.

I always thought that Kate Bush was English.
Thanks Renneye.
RIP Chrissie ~ What a great song for breast cancer. How very fitting that is.
Thanks Builder.
Now lets build a better, healthier world, so this stops happening.
It's a very sad loss, and I agree that it really doesn't have to happen.
Cancer is not a natural thing at all.
Cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. All living things have an alkaline/acid level (ph balance). Humans have become too acidic. We're supposed to be slightly alkaline. That's why our oceans are dying...because the ph balance is too acidic. A simple litmus test shows acid/alkaline level. Such a shame about Chrissie.

music ~ is the highest 'common denominator'. The great 'uniter'. Put two people from different countries and cultures in a room with any number of differing views...politics, religion, parenting...and watch the sparks fly. But play a beautiful melody and each is equally touched to their core and will hug in harmony...bonded in human spirit. We're essentially all the same...and music is the proof.

Can't help yourself can you 'Trashy', huh ? Tch !
temet nosce ...
If you think protesting means fighting me with logical fallacies you are sadly mistaken. You are wasting your time with what you call a "troll". I'm not being an arbitrator, I'm simply telling it like it is. Every time you write a message to me you waste time that could be better used for OWS.
Querulous Trashbucket !!! Does that cut both ways, d'you think ?!! Dolt !
temet nosce ...
It seems you can't either. You reply to almost all my postings with worthless drivel usually based on simplistic logical fallacies. Instead of wasting your time with me, you should go protest in the streets for OWS.
I am mainly here to practice my English writing skills. I use those skills to write in OWS journals.
I've been doing my 'protesting' here and elsewhere - what's it you ?!
When did you become arbiter of anything here ?!! Get a grip (wo)man !!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXp413NynFk
I love that tune. Got the EP around here somewhere.
I like the one he did with Michell Branch too.
Not sure I know that one. But if you want to feed your spirit I do recommend Santana. He is good and creative and will allow you to float free.
I saw Santana during his Supernatural Tour. Beautiful sounds, great guitarist, great backup musicians. A night I will never forget.
A true artist. Talent the world rarely sees.
I love Carlos, one of the best, still alive.
Here's "Game Of Love".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UIojGDIBvI
Absolutely, a living legend for sure. I was lucky enough to see him in concert about ten yrs ago. One the great guitar players of our time.
I was never lucky enough to catch him, if he ever tours again, I will be there.
On the other hand, I did catch Stevie Ray Vaughn......................:)
If you ever get the chance to see him live, catch another living legend.
Buddy Guy, is simply amazing. At the end of his set, the last time I saw him.........he played some Hendrix, just like Hendrix played on albums.
He played behind his head, he played with his teeth, he set the guitar on top of an amp and played it there. At his age! Never missed a note, never missed a beat. Amazing........:)
I just saw Buddy Guy with Experience Hendrix. Awesome man, awesome!!! He closed the show. Started soft, and ended with a great rendition of red house. Kenny Wayne Shepard, Johnny Lang, Billy Cox, Chris Layton on drums. Two years they had Seve Via and Vernon Reid.
It's wild stuff and all for Jimi. They assemble the best guitarists in the world for these shows. Towards the end of this month they're doing Austin City Limits LIVE!!!!!!!! And their done, again.
This show definitely revels Eric Clapton's Crossroads Tours. Yeah, this is it for me, I got turned on by Hendrix and ever since I seek that sound from all those great guitar players that can carry that beautiful sound and fury forward that started all those years ago.
Trower was in concert not too long ago. He just got a new CD out. If it wasn't for music this life would be dreadful. I do play some myself.
Coool. Music is timeless!!! But yet it's all about it!!! I love it!
I'm going to start a brand of elastomeric insulators someday, and I'll name it "resistance is butyl"
Buddy Guy rules! :)
He really looked great! He loves the music and it's been a good ride for him. It's a good place for him in his life as he recalled those rainbows Jimi was so alluded to. That sound has a place alongside all the other masters of time and music.
Immortal.

You're quite welcome. It was my pleasure. I'll see your 'Bruce' and raise you another 'Bruce.' This is my favorite Springsteen tune, and I like me some Bruce! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PTJHhUeAfc
Okay, then, here's my favorite Springsteen song. I was a big fan when I was a teen! I won't tell you how many times I saw him in concert. LOL!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdhkaPZtQF4&feature=fvst
OK, beautiful (may I call you beautiful?) that's my second favorite Springsteen song! I was in my mid-twenties when Bruce started to make his mark. A very good friend (to this day!) told me about him and that I "needed" to hear his "Greetings" album. That was all it took! I saw BS live in a small college gym that held about 2,500 people. That was in 1975 or 6. Very cool. Still the l-o-n-g-e-s-t concert I've ever been to.
That's cool. The first time I saw him was at the Palladium in NY in 1978. I still have the ticket stub. I was just a wee teen.
You save your ticket stubs?! Me too! The earliest one I have, (sadly because I didn't collect them when I first started going to concerts) is from something that was called The World Series of Rock. It was a series of outdoor day long concerts at major league ball parks in 1974. Jesse Colin Young, Santana, The Band and Crosby Stills Nash & Young. It cost $10! Labor Day weekend in Cleveland with an air show going on while the bands played on a Chamber of Commerce day - 85 and not a cloud. (big, stupid grin)!
That Springsteen concert was only my third concert. When I was just twelve I saw Jackson Browne at Tanglewood and Elton John at MSG. I had a cool mother. Still do. LOL!
That's great. I liked Jackson Browne, then didn't ('cuz it was reported he beat Darryl Hanna, whom he lived with) but I've decided just lately that I DO still like the music. I'm such a sad sell-out!
No. I don't think he beat Darryl Hanna. Never heard that. Really!? LOL! I actually moved away from Jackson Browne because, although his music is really lovely, it's a bit depressing, right? Way too heavy for me today.
I really like his first two albums. Lots of good stuff there. I'm done for the day. We'll chat soon. :-) One for the road~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qjo15n0mGU
You fortunate one. No wonder you are so positive.
That's a sweet thing to say. I try.
As I've said before and am likely to say again ( and you know this to be true if you've seen my comments ).
I calls em as I sees em.
I'm done for the day -bushed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qjo15n0mGU
Good night.
How funny.
I never heard that one before.

Hey T-C-N thanks for sharing this: Spirit's "Nature's Way" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3mRLhMX0UI
It may not be Uplifting.
But it is very Affirming.
Very good for re-dedication.
Or if anyone is wondering what we are doing here - they should have a look it is immensely understandable.
Then to reiterate and to be determined not to lose it : What a Wonderful World
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5TwT69i1lU
you should stay away from that consumer rap. Though the first song is a good tune, the second one makes me want to go out and spend money I don't have to perpetrate a life style that is not good for me. lol.
Music is what you take from it. I don't take consumerism from it at all.
I guess it could be my age, but as far as I'm concerned rap sold their beats and messages to corporate america. What they rap about today just ain't got no soul. The massage is phony and The beats are stale. Consumer Rap is like the Lifestyle channel, it is just there to feed the consumer economy.
You know what? I'm not going to be elitist and put down a whole group of artists that millions of people enjoy and who are using that form to express themselves. I'm not a big fan of most rap, but I like that song.
That is the only Bob Dylan song that I like. The only one. I like his music when someone else sings it.
I'm not listening to Bob Dylan. LOL! Not my favorite.
LOL. Sorry. Let me start over. I have too many tabs up.
No problem. Thanks for posting something fun.

Did you see "The Wall" concert yet?
Not yet. What do you think about Gilmour? I think that solo was the best guitar solo ever
It was a great solo, absolutely.
I've been blessed to see a fair number of guitar virtuosos in person in my life. I'm also fortunate in that I have a decent music collection that I've been accumulating since the 1960s (yes, I'm older than dirt!). Having said that, I would have difficulty calling one performance or recording by an artist - any one artist - as the best ever. Some of my favorite rock guitarists are Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Robin Trower, Sonny Landreth, Gary Clarke Jr., Roy Buchanan, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Liefson, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa, Peter Green, Lindsay Buckingham, Leslie West, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Page, Steve Howe, et al. Picking a favorite is impossible for me.
Onetime, if you have the opportunity to go and see the Waters show in person I highly recommend it. It's a very wonderful assault on the senses.

Lol !! Much intellect behind the comedic facade. Thanks.
Yeah, a really brilliant iconoclast, and damned funny.
Yep, comedians are in a beautiful position to get people to think, and they know this. Get them laughing and work in intelligent thought while people are feeling good. There are many that have done this. In contemporary times, George Carlin comes to mind. He had this mastered.
Right! Sometimes I think comedians change more minds than all the pundits put together.
I concur, fellow humor aficionado.
I just had to include this, even though it's spoken poetry, rather than a song. It just gives me chills, it's so inspiring.

Okay, Here's my last two songs and I'm going to bed.
First is my favorite Elton John song which has no title: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRw2EROYGNM&feature=fvst

John McLaughlin - Industrial Zen
He's an old guy, but then again, so am I.
Here's a good song "Kids" are listening to today (I'm listening to it right now), with a good message. The video's a little weird but it's metaphorical:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe4EK4HSPkI&ob=av2n
Interesting.
Yes it can be a big strange scary world all by itself. It does not need the corrupt to add to it. There are enough naturally scary things in it as is.
It's not a video you'll forget. I kind of want to think the monsters are the big bad banksters and politicians that are ruining our kids' futures.
I can see a clear correlation. As I think others would too.
I wish these included the translations, pure poetry. Mariza is my soul mate, my soul goddess! There is something about her passionate expression of anguish that is so healing. And what an artist - I don't think we'll see her like again.

For everyone - clik "start" above.
Personally I'm engaged in a massive jazz listening project starting from ragtime and blues and continuing through traditional jazz, swing, bebop, hard bop, cool, etc., to the most contemporary avant gard, main stream and smooth jazz sounds. So far I've amassed about 500 jazz "albums" or 10,000 jazz "songs" representing every period and my ultimate intention is to have a collection wherein I do not repeat any selection more than once a year listening at a rate of approximately 2 to 3 hours a day.
That's all 'niiice 'n' smoooth' I'm sure but wanna share a tune or two ?! Just askin' ;-)
Right now it's up to about 10,000 "tunes," though I don't think that is exactly linguisticly accurate. After all, is it really appropriate to call the selections in my classical collection "tunes?" In any event I'm such a computer moron that I really don't have the foggiest notion of how to link you to any of the "tunes" in my library. For starters why don't you try Louis Armstrong, Potato Head Blues, Duke Ellington Take the A Train, Charlie Parker, Parker's Mood, or John Coltrane's Traneing In.

Very nice.....here's another protest song by Steve Forbert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM1yATM9AKw
The song, mastered in October 2011, is a protest piece about those who profited the most from the events leading up to the 2008 financial meltdown --- and those who have profited "big time" from its taxpayer bailout aftermath.
"Set The World Ablaze"
The quick mart cashier's name is Val'ry, She's sixty something years of age; If you were paid a weekly sal'ry, What would be your hourly wage?
You've set the world ablaze, So give yourself a raise!
The dealer on the billboard poster, Is wanted by the law today; And things will go the way they're s'posed to, So rest assured the man will pay.
The Bernie thing had one slick owner, And Bernie did get sent to jail; It's bad to work as one slick loner, It's best to be too big to fail!
You've set the world ablaze, So give your self a raise!
Well, those supposed to over see you, Have often been in your employ; In truth they might as well just be you, It's quite a niche that you enjoy.
The rating firms exist to rate you, They're paid by you which works out well; And they'll of course accommodate you, And clear the things you'd like to sell.
You've set the world ablaze, So give your self a raise!
You maximize your machinations, Till certain laws are all but tame; You erode the regulations, And then you're free to game the game.
You sell investors bags of bungles, Some stuff you know is bound to fail, And then make bets against the bundles, So you win big behind the veil!
You've set the world ablaze, So give yourself a raise!
it's nice,,,I like it.
Thanks Puzzlin................:)

Hey there! How 'bout you, with the Procol Harem! I said do you speak-ah my language! (80s arcane reference) . I have an iPod welded to my hip and so... I listen to music all day. I watched Tony Bennett's "Duets II" on PBS last night. I was listening to classic bluesman Blind Willie McTell at one point today and Jeff Beck's "Emotion And Commotion" a little later on.
Thunderclap Newman Something In The Air (vintage pop)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8zmkzshUvE
Hi again Reneye. After re-reading my replies here in this thread to you I wanted to take a moment to clarify something for you any OWS forum readers and members who might be reading along in this thread. I've never been nor am I now a member of the musical group Thunderclap Newman. I chose the group's name because of their song "Something In The Air" and it's inspirational lyrics that I believe are appropriate for the Occupy Movement. I apologize for any ambiguity, and hope you will forgive me if I inadvertantly created the impression that I was a member of the group. I certainly would not want you or anyone else reading along to think something of me that wasn't true.
Don't give it a second thought!! I did think you were a member, but no matter. Hey, if you want to keep your identity....anonymous, you're..... perfectly entitled. Kidding! ;) I can't come over there and smack you for that, so this is what you get...

Who the hell is voting all the posts down in this thread? Are there actually people in this movement who think that music isn't a part of protests and revolutions? That goes as far back as time itself. I'll just see what I can do about that!
Smack me? Wait! Can we talk about that for a minute? I'm a bleeder! LOL!! Voting down...hmmm...maybe they're put off or jealous that this thread is so popular. GF started it so we'd have a thread to get out of the heat for a while, and that's what we're doing, right?
Florence and The High C's? - hysterical!!! It might very well BE some of the worst singing ever recorded. Reminds me of a guy named Tiny Tim who was a novelty act in the late 60s and early 70s. Here's an appearance on Rowan & Martin's Laugh In http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skU-jBFzXl0

Dolly Parton famously said "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!" Here's The Dixie Chicks, who I really admire both as people and musicians and love their bluegrass. White Trash Wedding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EshGQDYBKyE
Not much time tonight...just peekin' in. Great tunes again!
I forgot how strong Sade's voice can be when she wants to put some power into her voice. Dixie Chicks rock..."as people and musicians"!
I think I mentioned Lauryn Hill earlier on this thread and then I just saw this on another thread. It fits here too...Lauryn Hill refused to be a nwo puppet and "they" cut off her career.

I'm listening to Springsteen's "Jungleland" right now.
Wow...I think I'm starstruck!! I see from your posts, that your musical tastes go across the board. I'm the same way. I do have genres that I like better than others, but if its done with quality, I can listen to anything.
I just listened to this from another poster 'rayolite' on another thread.
Titled "Love Someone". "A live performance of a man baring his soul in compassion and benevolence, solo artistry, skill."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiInBOVHpO8
That's amazing! I once saw a musician named Thomas Dolby who played keyboards and synthesizers. As a solo performer at the show I saw, he built songs the same way this fellow did and I thought THAT was incredible. This guy used only his voice and the electonics to create his music. Wow!
Do you happen to remember a guy called Bobby McFarrin Don't Worry Be Happy was a pop hit for him. He made all the instrument sounds with his voice. Back then something like this had to be done with multi-track recording, I believe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHFDa9efCQU
Do I remember it? Are you kidding.....I remember being just as awestruck then, as nothing like it, that I knew of, existed before then. He's still a master.
Are you ready for something.....a little more gritty? I don't think any female performer today is as raw as Beth Hart. I love this live performance of "Am I The One". Crank'er up.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZVMBzLV5Ps
If that was too much for you, here's another Beth Hart song called "Sky Full of Clover". It builds real nice with a choir back up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyr60V_YqNw
Wow! Great music. Both songs. Beth Hart has an amazing and very distintive voice. Jon Nichols was excellent! I'm a huge fan of the blues. Blues is the one truely honest music. It's from the heart and the pit of the stomach.
Every artist should at some point incorpoate a gospel tune with a choir in an album. The power and emotion that comes from singing with a gospel choir backing is just beyond words.

Morrison - wow. Here's something from his earlier days with Them. A self-portrait of their days of "coming along". Could be considered for rap song of the year for 1964! LOL! As you're no doubt aware they did the original version of "Gloria" redone by a band called The Shadows Of Knight, if I remember correctly. It was a huge hit for The Shadows in like 66 or 7. Have I mentioned how much fun I'm having in this thread?

The more often it is posted the better.
DK, perhaps we might think about posting that link in every thread. I wonder what the others might feel about that? :-)
I'm going to put it on my user's page so it will be handy.

Feed the spirit.
DK, as you may have already read, I put up a thread here in the forum for the link. People everywhere need to see and hear that! Your reply to me after your watching the vid inspired me to do it. Thank you, DK.
Thank you for feeding the spirit. I have already placed it several times.
Great! Thanks. I think people here and around the world could use a little boost in spirits.
Exactly - while remembering what brought us all together.

Michael Shrieve: The Woodstock Solo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG1ASj7Yh4I
Michael is a world renowned percussionist nowadays.
Mr. Shrieve inspired an entire generation of drummers with the solo in Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" performed at Woodstock
It's said that the first time drum kits that were miked-up was at Woodstock because it was known prior that the crowd was going to be so large that unless the drums were amplified along with everything else, they'd never be heard throughout the site.
You probably know of these guys, but for others reading along, check out these drummers sometime: Danny Seraphine (Chicago Transit Authority), Corky Laing (Mountain), Carmen Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Beck, Bogert & Appice, Cactus) Neil Peart (Rush), Narada Michael Walden (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report), Abe Laboriel (most recently with ex-Beatle Paul McCartney), William Kennedy (Yellowjackets)
Searching for a heart of gold.

How can you not like "Masters of War" I just it's not for everybody.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaMz8pgua_0
Pretty easy. I like his music as long as someone else sings it.
I don't like his voice.
did you check the link?
Yep and I listened to it. :D Which was easier when I saw that he wasn't singing it.
I found it just for you :), anyway, fun thread..
Thanks.
I haven't found a favorite version of Masters of War yet, but I kind of like these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-0XoZ3GrltM Starts after 30 sec of MLK speech.
good one, I think that is the best one I've seen, this is pulled out of my longer response below, just Bruce Cockburn on stage but two of his best:

Thanks. I love him so much. One of my favorites of his is Indian Wars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_bcX2qBufY&list=FLqOVlN-k41GMhGBE7hDj1bg&index=18&feature=plpp_video Wait for Chief Joseph at the end. If that doesn't give you goosebumps nothing will.
Yeah I don't like a whole lot of his music but that is definitely one.
You don't like the times they are a changin?
I do. I don't go for pop music that they play on the radio. So, I listen to Classic Rock or thrash/jazz/blues at home. I love this and this and this . Most of the newer stuff that I like is heavier.
Chicago can certainly Drive it.
Or Santana has great instrumentals : Abraxas

Beautiful song, stunning visuals! Thanks, DK. Here's something in the same vein by Jeff Beck live at the Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival. I was fortunate to be in attendance for this show. When Beck and Co. finished playing this, people in the audience were in tears, literally! As you're probably aware, Nessun Dorma is an aria from the opera Turandot. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZXIVMdXsVU
