this is the time to call out on all these unemployed college graduates unable to pay their students loans, especially the engineers, to come up with new ideas, i.e., environmentally efficient ways of warming/heating dwellings--tents. If this is the time to demand from your parents' generation, who are unable to provide you with full employment upon graduation, full forgiveness of your students loans, it is also the time for young educated people to create their own jobs, by daring to try and fail and try again. The costs of starting one's own business in this country are extremely low because of technology and the administrative barriers are very low as well. Because of technology increasing productivity, the likelilhood of creating a job for everyone is becoming nil. Ergo, you have to create your own job; meaning that when a technical problem arises in the encampment, it is time to ask all OWS participants all over the world to come up with practical solutions that may lead to jobs. Duh?
I'm not an unemployed college graduate - but the thing about heating isn't so much the heating...it's keeping it in that's the hard part. Astrofoil is a REALLY cheap insulation that could be placed around tents. Paper is also a good insulator, and you'd be recycling! I know you can convert sound into electricity...you should get the drummers in on that one. Battery power generators? Is this no good? You could set up a bike in the middle of the camp to charge it and everyone could ride for a just a few minutes. You know a solar water heater? You could funnel in solar heat from the top of the tent using reflectors.
Alright, let's see what we've got so far:
1) flapping your mouths 2) i generate heat 3) Astrofoil 4) Ask Native Alaskans 5) OWS feeds everyone beans
Anyone else?
How about OWS feeds everyone beans. At night, everyone can slowly pass gas! The rest of OWS can work on a bean farm.
A sustainable and green source of food and heat!
Good morning World !
so, where are the bright solutions for keeping these guys warm & safe? any brilliant ideas out there?
There are no decent jobs to be had. Why should they settle for less when they have to pay students' loans? Look at European nations, like France, where education is FREE. That's called investment in the next generation.
So, I say, get some Native Alaskans involved and ask them for solutions!
If they were that innovative and hard working, they will look for a job and they will get it.
The hard parts are keeping the heat in, and avoiding carbon monoxide poisoning. That has killed people in tents.
No, but seriously. If you were stranded on an island, you'd find a way to survive, no? This is the point. Find ways to survive now and later. Pulling a "J'Accuse" is not good enough. Do something different, drastic and perhaps useful to you and others around you. That's call Serendipity, no?
everyone can just gather around me... i generate heat :D
give this man a drink!
Great ideas, Norman, let's ask the powers that be to add these ideas to the General Assembly. Why wait for the others to help when OWS can come up with their own solutions. Let's dare and try and fail and dare again for Heaven's sake!
KUDOS!
