We are the 99% We are not those of us at the occupation, we are all affected by this broken sytem. As the 99% we all come from different backgrounds and have different beliefs. This is on it's way to become a powerful movement, but we can not use that power to satisfy our own personal interests.
We are Liberals, Conservatives, Left, Right, and everything in between. Some of us want Health Care, Some of us don't. Some of us wan't lower taxes, some of us don't.
We are not here to demand our individual ideas because we think it is right. We are here to fix the system, and make it a fair playing ground for all of us.
Once the corruption is reduced, and representation is increased, then we can vote nationally in a democracy about how to fix the poverty, or our foreign affairs, or anything. The reason we are all so angry isn't because we don't have health care or we have too much gun control.
We are angry because we have no legal power to change it, and our government doesn't care about us anymore. We need to concentrate on fixing the system, not demanding it bend to our will. Otherwise we break democracy, and what we need to do is fix it, to make it better.
I hope you all read this and understand.
Please, tell me your thoughts on this. We all want something, I just think we should build a way to obtain those things democratically first.
Agreed. Let's get corporate influence out of politics and make it accountable to the people. Then we can settle the other issues via real, representative elections.
Thank you. If we keep demanding controversial topics, we will scare away the other half of the 99%. We should have signs that say "We want you to have it your way"
That would be a good sign. Good job. Say that more.
End the FED.
STOP the wars!!
Restore the Republic.
We don't just want a republic. We HAVE a republic. Elected officials acting like they know what we want. We need more direct democracy too
We don't have a REPublic. If we did, Congress would be listening to the people. They don't represent us, they represent corporate money. They are bought and sold.
This is what a republic ends up being in reality. Idealistically this should not be, but as history will tell you, this is what happens.
www.getmoneyout.com apparently Dylan Ratigan has a movement going to get big money lobbying out of government - anyone aware of this? thoughts?
Yes - it's an amendment to the constitution - he described it on impromptu interview at OWS with We Are Change - saw it on Activist Post today. Great interview. The amendment apparently involves making it illegal for Congress to accept corporate money, he wasn't that specific about it.
