The guest on his radio show is a Political Science professor and discusses some viable ways of getting the money out of politics. Ratigan proposes a constitutional amendment, but that would take years to organize.
At about the 11:30 mark, Tom Ferguson, the guest, says that since congress can make it's own rules, they can draw up a resolution that would bar members from sitting on a committee if the member took money from anyone that's affected by jurisdiction of that committee. Well, they can draw up a resolution if their constituents demand it from them. Even though that would only help the legislative branch, perhaps momentum for a "Publicly Funded Elections" amendment?
In any case, the whole clip is great and if you have time to listen to it. I've enjoyed watching/reading the posts from everyone!
Here's the Amendment: "No person, corporation or business entity of any type, domestic or foreign, shall be allowed to contribute money, directly or indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office or to contribute money on behalf of or opposed to any type of campaign for Federal office. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, campaign contributions to candidates for Federal office shall not constitute speech of any kind as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution or any amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of voting for candidates for Federal office."
