I have one question for the Leadership of this movement...
As a POI... I am a Baby Boomer, currently Unemployed, and like millions of others, have a family to support & bills to pay..and as you all know, UI doesn't go to far... Not to mention the high cost of getting health coverage (even thru Healthy NY)..
I am also a Registered Democrat....
Like it or not, Republican Presidential Candidate Herman Cain had a valid point.... When are you going to start holding President Obama responsible for the economic malaise that has gripped the country...
Don't you think its about time that President Obama starts to accept responsibility for the failures that take place during his tenure in office??
The last time he passed a 'Jobs Stimulus Bill".... only a few thousand jobs were actually created....
Unemployment has persistently remained at or above 9% for months on end....
What would I do???
I'd go to Congress & tell them to "re-visit" our Foreign Aid.... We give Billions a year in Foreign aid to Countries who openly state they hate us.... Do I have to pay someone to hate me??? Let someone else "engage" with our adversaries.....
That money could be better spent here at home, supporting individual states & their Medicaid budgets......
Right here in NYC... you can be out of work, and yet still not qualify for public health coverage because your income exceeds the guidelines set by NYS.....
If everyone who gets UI were automatically eligible for the States programs (FHP, Medicaid, Free CHP), it would go a long way toward helping out Millions of New Yorkers & families nationwide... Not to mention the Billions upon Billions of dollars that would be returned to local economies, helping states like NY to reduce their deficits...
NYS had no choice but to drastically reduce funding to NYC based non-profits, who in turn had to reduce services to thousands of needy people... Some of these people are right there with you in your makeshift camp.....
Senior Centers have been closed.. Free health clinics in NYC for the uninsured have been closed....
As to wall street greed..... 20% of NYS's budget comes from wall street...
My solution to the greed... Increase the budget that NYS alots to the Inspector Generals office.. and tighten up the SEC..they are responsible for policing Wall Street....Get rid of the bad apples......
Behind the scenes, Government is reducing the budgets of Consumer & Government oversight committees....Re-instate those budgets & you'll see stepped up vigilance against corrupt politicians & business leaders...
How we can easily Reform Wall Street: Take away their powers once again.
"We are here Congress because we want to bring BACK the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 http://www.investopedia.com/articles/03/071603.asp#axzz1aPEc3wX which saved our country from the Great Depression by preventing banks and insurance companies from merging and becoming large brokerage firms; instead of Banks and Insurance companies--can't we learn a history lesson here Congress? Btw, why did most of you vote for its repeal in 1999? http://www.counterpunch.org/2008/09/19/shattering-the-glass-steagall-act
Think about where we are now, it all started in 1999 with the subprime loans Senator Phil Gramm was peaching on Senate floor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKQOxr2wBZQ&feature=related
Furthermore, we also want you to CHANGE the Commodities Future Modernization Act of 2000 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodity_Futures_Modernization_Act_of_2000 BACK to where it was before 2000, which since has deregulated energy markets and has allowed for such scams as The Enron Loophole; whereas in the early 2000's Enron Corp. was charging 400 bucks plus for a kilowatt hour...They all when to jail for this. But, the Enron loophole is still not closed, for example, allowing speculators to resell barrels of oil over and over again before it reaches the gas station owner. It's basically, legal gambling at our expense. What were those lawmakers thinking then? What are you thinking now? Either do the right think, or you're part of the 1%."
Why are oil prices high? The Enron Loophole
