Anyone feel that the opposition to OWS has sunk, or may sink to the lowest of political lows, playing the race card?

The race card is politicians' kryptonite, but we will have to embrace it. Some advice: be calm, don't accuse, stick to the facts, remember that our goals unite the 99%, which includes every minority.

sorry to disappoint you, but the race card is already being played. recently I have heard things like "If you do not vote Obama for a second term, then you are racist", "If you vote republican, you are racist", "If you go to a church with only whites in, you are racist" And so on.............

Well I would just like to take this opportunity to say: I do not give two hoots of a monkeys tin whistle what colour a person is. if his policies suck, then his policies suck.

I'm not racist. And I also don't care if someone calls me a racist. people freak out about being seen as racist, and hide that's what they want you to do. Don't give anyone that power.

two hoots of a monkey's whistle? Is that supposed to be funny in a racial context?

[-] 1 points by Rmarks1701 (103) 13 years ago

There is nothing racial about it, it is just an old expression from the UK. It is equivalent to saying "I don't give a damn"

The race card is a clever way for the political elite and the financial and industrial insiders to obscure unequal access to resources and opportities. For all practical purposes, if you maintain disproportionate control over the most scarce, highly prized and contested resources, such as a CEO position, a Bentley or a mansion and you hold all the connections to the best opportunities, then you are powerful and may be assumed to be a memebr of the dominant and privileged class of US citizens. If you do not have dominion and control over the best, most highly contested, and scarse, opportunities and resources, in US Society, irregardless of your sex, race, or other sociological or physical feature, you may be assumed to not be a person of privilege or dominance.

I want what was promised now. Forget the clothes and food. Give us what you promised. Don't make us say what you want us to do for you.

Who promised what?

The black shirt guys said if we stuck it out we could get our fix. They come around on the weekends but there isn't enough to go around.

I hope you enjoyed making your point, whatever it was =)

Perhaps you could provide us some talking points to answer questions as to why there aren't more minorities participating. It would be good to be prepared.

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

I am not talking about minority participation because that is another issue for another topic. I am warning about potential trolls.

I get it. Another question. How do we distinguish between a troll and someone pointing out an obvious truth. If the troll uses an obvious truth to troll us, should we treat it as trolling, or address the issue?

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

It's really difficult, and sometimes wrong. I try to treat everyone with respect until they start spamming. If they have put the thought into a good response, I put in the thought too. If we really are 99%, we can spend all the time in the world getting people on our side.

We are doing someone else's work and now Obama wants to jump on board and the unions. Fuck them! Let's see Obama come spend one cold night with us.

If he is really supporting OWS, he'd do that.

[-] 0 points by TeaParty (27) 13 years ago

You come sit and sleep here! Fuck this we are getting no support for someone ekes political cause. Fuck this. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a political corporate site!

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

Re this is a corporate site: Some people think so.. that they are stealing the donation money.. but with no proof except a lack of non-proof. But they have been here for us, improving the site, moderating, running the servers, etc.

How many here are actually from OWS?

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

If you mean the NYC protestors, I think only a few are actually on these forums, but it's really well connected now on a lot of networks. I would guess they are doing most stuff on the streets with mobile phones with facebook/twitter.
