Forum Post: Quitting OWS

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Sorry guys. Supported for more than month. All most all my friends gave up and stopped going to Mcpherson Sq. No more trips.

Reasons for quitting

  1. No solid agenda. Current demands seems to portrays that North Korea is best place to live.

  2. I see big demand to blame washington. Some vested interest does not want that.

  3. Union supporting the OWS. I worked in steel industry and unions were responsible for demise of that in USA.

  4. Involvement of MSNBC, Michael Moore, Al Sharpton, C. West, Unions, Nancy Pelvis and list goes on. These are OBAMA supporters and it means we are taken for ride. That is the reason OWS avoids any mention of congress or DC.

I was involved at DC protest, most of the people I talked had obsolete degrees. They can upgrade their ipods, iPhones, ipads but not their skills. I had regular phone but most of them had iPhone and ipads.

From today onward I will concentrate on my work.

I realized 99% time we our selves are to be blamed. Why bank will bother me if I do not borrow. Why credit card will bother me if I do not spend on wants and do not pay on time. These people are complaining about jobs. In DC private consultants are looking for good workers specially in IT field.

My biggest question is how the Protester who are there for most the time earn Tue money they are spending on Starbucks etc.

I am thankful (to GOD or whatever) for what I have.

Spending one month with OWS, I learnt a lot. You can blame others but you 99% of time you are responsible for yourself.

I may still keep posting but few.

PS: Yesterday I got call from a Canadian friend. He told me how stupid we are. First China and India are taking us for ride. Now a gimmick by Canadian web site adbuster has made fool of us.

Added following based on comments.

I did not want to demonize the steel industry workers. I worked with them and have lot of respect. I have been always seeing that unions abbey to be out of OWS because they have influenced the current administration. They have strong lobby and are influencing OWS.

I think this movement is being hijacked by a certain party and I think that is the prime reason for my decision. As for as troll, I cannot change your opinion and I do not want to. I loved OWS and nobody forced me in to it and current decision is mine too.

From my long experience in dealing with governments in more than a dozen of them I assure you that if you slash more than half of government officials or the so-called public dis-service and throw them to the streets you will definitely get better, effective and efficient administrations.

I am sure they are the source of corruption and corporate greed support. I have never seen in my long life any government department or an office functioning properly. They are excesses, idles, and the antithesis of innovation, ethics and productivity.

People must have regular and uninterrupted access to monitor what are going on in any government office, low or high, including the judiciary, the police, the security, and the military.

When you deal personally with a successful private business you feel your power as a valued customer even if it was unethical business. But when I personally deal with any government office I feel their arrogance and wickedness; I wish I could spit on their faces.

The public service anywhere in the world is ten times it’s optimal size, and they are very good in employing the failures and the dishonest for life.

To Occupy Wall Street and bring social, political, and economic justice people must axe useless officials first.

you're quitting because you have an agenda that this movement is not serving. you are a troll that has spent the last month trying to redirect people to the republican talking point that our gov is the problem and made post that are clearly against the democratic party. you came here with your divisive party crap. nobody cares if you leave. http://ows.superunion.org/results/?q=daverao

This movement was written off on its first day by the Media. Everyone wants an instant fix to a problem. There is no instant fix to the decades of corporate entrenchment in our democratic political process. CEO's and monied elitists have pitched tent in both political parties and hedged their bets by funneling decades of substantial amounts of corporate cash to gain access into every corner of Washington DC. I've worked all my life and witnessed the dismantling of our banking system to the point I didn't recognize lending practices. Gone were the days of mortgage downpayments and limits on borrowing based on wages of the purchaser which also took into consideration any personal debt. We lost affordable health care, affordable housing, working class wages and benefits with defined retirement plans, affordable education and our middle class style of living as we compete against low wage countries like China and India. The bright spot in all of this is that CEO's of major corporations like Goldman Sachs have been able to reap a tremendous amount of profits regardless of what product they are selling and at the same time hedging against. If anyone chooses to go up against corporations and the billions of dollars that are at their disposal they already know that the battle to take back any form of democracy takes longer than 30 days to achieve.

LOL...troll...

And there it is. The obligatory "TROLL" jeer at anybody who isn't a cheerleader for "the movement". Bush thought that everybody who he didn't like was a terrorist. To some people, anybody who doesn't agree with them is a troll. It's a sign of narrow-minded, absolutist, us-versus-them thinking.

Good riddence all you did was project your faux noise talking points on the OWS, your probably leaving cause no hippie chicks wanted to sleep with you ... go back to your cubical like a good wage slave

I agree with some of the points you have made here. I agree that 99% of the time we, ourselves, are to blame. However, I also believe that at least 90% of the time, we, ourselves, do not do enough when it is our fault. It is our fault that the world system exists the way it does because we have let it exist this way for many years. But right now, people are standing up and saying, they do not agree. People are joining together and admitting that this system is not working for the majority. No, this is not the END-solution to the problem. It is a HUGE step, but it is only the FIRST of MANY steps to come in order to create a world in which we can all take pride. I for one believe that it is a good sign that people are standing out against a blatantly corrupt system. We have been quiet and "good little citizens" for far too long.

I worked at Rouge Steel after they split from Ford and outsourced their IT department to Perot Systems. The bastard manager literally put up a sign that said "If you don't come in Sunday, don't come in Monday." They bought their casters from Japan and later sold out to a Russian company. I doubt if you've ever been through that kind of transition. Blaming unions for the state of the steel industry is just obvious bullshit.

Yep...

[-] 1 points by jssss (71) 13 years ago

Bullshit.

TROLL ALERT

It's just ironic that this poster plays some clever little ego centric game of' " I'm taking all my toys and going home, you guys just don't play nice..."

While, in the outside world, this movement grows bigger by the day. He never was with us. Anything he's saying is not factual, such as:

"Now a gimmick by Canadian web site adbuster has made fool of us. Canadians are laughing at us on our stupidity."

He equates this movement to a gimmick. And this gimmick has spread to hundreds of cities across the world as it gains strength. Just a gimmick huh...,

Davero, last laugh is on you bud.

"Union supporting the OWS. I worked in steel industry and unions were responsible for demise of that in USA."

This proves you are ignorant, free trade and corporations sending jobs to slaves overseas was responsible for the demise of industry, don't blame anyone but them. I know OP is a fake.

[-] 1 points by daverao (124) 13 years ago

I couldn't resist just walking away from OWS as I was staunch supporter. I am not saying 100% unions were responsible. Their rates for labor were very high and they called them skilled labor. With those rates it was hard to compete with other non union plants. They could not fire lazy workers as union will support them. Union leaders were different breed they will side with local politicians and indirectly management too.

I bet you were never part of the movement to begin with

Yes....most people give up very easily...especially when the task does not serve their own individual desires.
