Hi, First time poster here. Sorry if this seems naïve, but I remember from somewhere that the economy is a matter of how fast capital/money moves (velocity?) and that the faster it moves, the more people benefit. I also remember that one of the earliest forms of taxes has to do with taxing NON-WORKING CAPITAL. Very simply, put your money to work, pay it out to your stockholders, or pay a tax on it! In all cases, the money will move and people who have money will spend it and so on… I’m sure some economists and accountants can get together and devise a fair definition of NON-WORKING CAPITAL. e.g. any Cash asset greater than a % of the company value that is sitting in a bank, in T-bills, gold, industrial building, real-estate, that is not working or benefiting society in some way, etc. You could even reduce the tax on profits… Any thoughts?

Nice handle! Lots of great ideas in this forum but they're lost in the cacophony. I hammer away on the idea that OWS has to move to the next level: a National General Assembly where core issues can be crafted into a document to be presented for redress as per the 1st Amendment. There's a warning to the powers that be (TPTB) attached to the document. Have a look: https://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/

Interesting deceleration. But its too specific as a remedy of what we see today in the USA. I was very impressed by the modern constitution crafted by Canada in 1982: Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/charter/) sets a modern framework that we can live with. Please look this over for ideas for reform. I'm sure the Canadians won't mind. ;)

if you mean the list is too specific, then sure and that's why the NGA is so important. To illustrate:

"This is not a question of politics, of right or wrong. This is a question of intelligence. We must be smart. We enjoy popular support, for now. But to preserve America's good will, we must keep our demands narrow: end the corrupting influence of money in politics. That is something a majority of Americans can get behind. That is something a social movement can achieve. And then, and only then, can the other issues be successfully pursued." -theghostofthomassjefferson

so he's believes the list is not of grievances but demands (he told me so) and his input is valuable. But time is too precious to spend much more here on a forum. This discussion has to move out into the congressional districts where the work of preparing for the NGA needs to be done. Moreover, this is when all the people get to be hands on with OWS.

OWS failed to declare the occupations suspended in time and now they're quickly becoming the laughingstock of the world. The oligarchs down there had better get their heads out of the clouds and get serious. There are far more serious people already out there who aren't going to wait for OWS much longer. OWS needs to be occupied!

You know A Farewell To Kings is a RUSH album eh? ; )
