Forum Post: Proposed - Boycott businesses of anti-OWS folks

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

This is just a proposal - I would very much like your input on this. I would also like to add that the goal is not to publish personal info here on anyone. Any materials for this would be posted in an appropriate place should this come to pass. So don't look for it here (unless it is decided to host it here, etc).

I frequent a couple of internet forums. I have noticed that not a few owners of businesses have been spreading lies and propaganda against #OWS. In one case, a man with multiple businesses is claiming that #occupysandiego is a big scam. Nobody is actually there, it is all just homeless people paid by Soros to fake it, etc etc etc.

Now, these people all believe in the "invisible hand of the market," it seems. And part of that would be giving the consumer the information needed to decide who to patronize, and who to not patronize.

So, proposed - A boycott list should be compiled of businesses and business owners who have expressed anti-OWS beliefs. People would be free to boycott them as they see fit.

Also proposed - Any submissions to this list must be verified. In other words, you must provide links to anti-OWS posts, interviews, actions, etc. It will not just be a list of names. Each business listed will have the references posted with it, so that each person may decide for themselves.

What do people think of this?

What inspired me to do this was the story of a firearms instructor in Texas who is openly refusing to teach, "Socialists and Muslims."

I mean, turnabout is fair play. This is non-violent, and a good way to send a message.

What do you people think? Yay? Nay? Input please.

Let us be clear - I don't think this will take down anyone or anything like that. It may not even be noticed much.

BUT...

We, as consumers have the right to send our dollars where we choose. I know of multiple business owners who have been trashing #OWS hard. Shouldn't it be known so that WE can decide where WE send our $$$?

Hell, the right does this to the point of being illegal!

I think it's a good idea as long as you could verify their anti-OWS position. I'm for it.

Uh, hate to break it to you, but you are like the 1.9% - not the 99%. Americans are pissed and frustrated, but don't see standing in a park as an effective solution. And I don't get the sense that the OWS crowd has sufficient collective incomes to be a major revenue hit to any company. But save your money, put it in the market, see it grow, give some to charity, pay for your kids college, spend your time on productive activities.

It's a great idea. It's legal. It's traditional. It is effective. Speak in a language they understand. Money.

IMO, fox news sponsors and anything from Koch brotheres should be in the crosshairs, and at the top of the list, along with any corporations who spend large amounts lobbying agendas harmful to the 99%

Get it started, but you need the list on Facebook or a website not this forum obviously :-)

You mean you'll promise to never show up at my business or buy my products...really? How do I get on the list today?

I think that if I owned lots of stock in Target I might post as someone from Walmart.
